12 on up Sapperton this evening will be interesting. Class 7s rarely take more than 11.

Just what I was thinking...I thought the NRM was particular about loadings.

Nice to see it running without a headboard too! RTC are quite adamant on the locos wearing it.

They are paying for it so it's their choice to use their headboard.

Me too. Lineside trespassing common around Stroud so always a risk of a signal check. Big Class 8s not that happy with taking 20/30 onto the foot of the bank.

Wonder who's driving on the return?? The Master of Sapperton, Ray Poole has retired and can't remember the last time he wasn't on the regulator on the return from Worcester.

A couple of shots from Worcester today. I was impressed with the exterior condition of the coaches. They'd all been freshly painted and were positively gleaming in the sunshine today.

Have it on good authority Bill Monteith was driving. Very lucky not to be slowed through Stroud, 49. Into Tunnel at 22.1.

Not at those premium prices Don. But I know a man who is on it and will try to get him to send me the GPX file off his GPS. Doubt he was hand timing. The mileposts ain't that easy a spot when you know where they are/should be.

Scotsman enjoyed a good run at the bank passing Standish Jn at a reasonable speed. The previous train up the bank ran 55 mins before the charter.

Far too warm for any clag but a wonderful sight all the same. Many thanks to the crews and all involved in today's outing. <BJ>

Thanks. Even at low speeds it’s a very difficult section to time. Sounds like a very good climb

My footage of Flying Scotsman roaring up Sapperton Bank with 12 coaches in tow through the Golden Valley. I hope you enjoy the video.

24 ish into the tunnel (phone reading rather than GPS) slipped three times in the tunnel but sure footed till then. Lots of whistling but no apparent checks, at least one Network Rail person on crossing duty on the climb.

As I suspected no hand timings so nothing really reportable. Getting a bit like that these days - so few timers around, or ones who will share timings, and we're missing timings some of the best runs. Perhaps fellow NP Friends will browse RPS and other sites in case this one turns up on them.
