Are you expecting the Swanage RTT info to work in the same way that Network Rail's does?
Because if you are, then you will be disappointed.

The Swanage article gives you an idea how it works at The Swanage, and if you read the RTT FAQs, you will see how it works on NR.
Once you understand the differences, you will understand the differences :)

Thx Gladiator. That is a fine looking DMU and if the interior is as well turned out as the exterior it will be a pleasure to ride in it and to see it operating into Wareham,

I had totally missed the SD tour as I still do not venture out beyond Purbeck much at the moment. But on the return it leaves Platform 2 at Eastleigh 2 minutes after the tour leaved for Paddington so I guess your assumption is correct.

On a line that is normally only 5.5 miles long a different "angle" is hard to get.
A service train from Monday (a day that was really too warm of course for steam photography) and yesterday a piece of track that I had never managed to catch a moving train on before, although a loaded Rudd and a QM Brake Van may not be the heaviest load 33111 has had to deal with. Didn't know the Swanage Railway was now able to run a slip coach service!

Unusual decision to use a coach that looks like it's really in need of a bit of TLC for slipping as well!

Being coaled, presumably ahead of its away day to foreign parts (well Hampshire) this weekend. I think the loco looks better with the smoke deflectors refitted. IMG_6474.JPG .

Just out of interest, has the preservation era ever witnessed a demonstration of a slip coach? Are there even any examples certified operable anywhere?

No, not to my knowledge and I think the likelihood in the future would be on the low side of zero.

I think this may be the only surviving slip carriage in this country - not operational: http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=2655

Cheers Tom. Got to admit I'm disappointed if only one survives, but rather less surprised by none being operational. A shame, given their longevity and importance in the UK.

I came across a few old clips of slipping in operation. S'pose, like water troughs, that is about the best we can hope for.

Here's a clip on the subject, from Rauiridh MacVeigh's YouTube channel [9'12"]. There are quite a few more on YT too. Hope y'all enjoy.

The "slip coach" looks very like a 4TC

Most probably 76298 (still in faded LU maroon) the 4TC "strategic spare"?.
    http://www.4tc.org.uk/unit/index.php/unit413
Has a cab which could be used in "slip" operation. But doubt it?.
Has had years declining from the weather. Might give the 4TC group a problem, if to leave it deterating as trackside junk to eventually be scrapped, or sell it to someone to restore back as a MK1 coach?
