When will they decide that colour the manual gates will be? And which side the crossing keeper's house will be built? ;)

Yes - can I point out that a full barrier crossing is proposed - not sure where Richard got the idea that there would be manual gates.

Manual Gates ? Sounds like the name of a Spanish crossing keeper :)

Must confess I didn't notice this. Interestingly, I seem to remember that barriers were proposed to replace the gates for the Northbridge Street and Junction Road crossings when preservation was first discussed in the days of Barbara Castle. At that time North Bridge Street was the A21 and Junction Road was an A road.

Well I suppose automatic barriers or gates controlled by a gatekeepers hut or nearest signalbox computerised is the solution more convenient and faster in today's modern digital world then that way the traffic waiting to cross over the R.V.R. wouldent be held up as long compared to a manual set of crossing gates which I would think infeasable in today's railway and this suggestion can be put across H.E. and the O.R.R. if the K.E.S.R. through the R.V.R. are hell bent on getting their mainline connection but Also as well is the finance their for all 3 L.C. to be like this if approved by H.E. good luck with the enquiry next week for the L.C. for the evidence put forward by the R.V.R. that they can operate the L.C. safely and construct the L.C. by only causing minimal disruption to motorists journeys IF APPROVED only time will tell the R.V.R. K.E.S.R. most certainly have my support for suggestions.

I’m under the impression that the RVR already has a main line connection.

Indeed it does! It is the connection between the RVR and the K&ESR that is required.

and re-instatement of the missing link would give KESR a mainline connection.

And in the coming years, when everyone is either forced to drive electric cars, or, if they cannot afford such a luxury to go without private transport altogether, then at least the less well-off inhabitants of Tenterden and the Rother valley will have a direct link to the national railway network.
That may sound a bit pessimistic, but looking into an admittedly cloudy crystal ball, I can't help but think that a reconnected KESR will ultimately be about more than tourism alone.
The same goes for our other rail-connected heritage lines.

I thought he was Bill's nephew........ In which case surely they could have some sort of computer controlled crossing.

Carry the road bridge on at the same height across the valley over the roundabout and then down to reconnect with the existing A road?
NB Might cause those who want a dual carriageway to Hastings to become railway supporters. As the roundabout is evidently an obstacle to road traffic comparable to the level crossing this could remove reasons for deprecating road improvements further North that would cause more vehicles across the Rother valley.
