Low cost low season motive power? There must be some operational advantages to Pacers given the huge numbers of heritage railways that have bought at least one!

 

Well, yes, but NVR already has the Swedish railcar (soon to be joined by matching trailer car), and that fits our history for continental stock too...

 

Likewise.

 

And I'll wager the Swedish railcar will give a better ride that the pile of scrap Pacer that has just arrived.

 

It does give a back-up option to the Swedish Railcar - however, with no other railway being able to offer a Swedish Railcar or Continental Experience surely the Nene should be pushing this as a unique selling point rather than getting a Pacer that now many others can already offer.

 

I think there's many who will agree with that view point.

 

They must have been the prize in one of those luxury Christmas cracker sets... I think I'd rather the funny mustache.

 

There are those who'd say the same of a certain ex-Egyptian State Railway "Sentinel", languishing elsewhere.

It appears that there has been an issue on the booking area of the NVR website since sometime last week indicating no availability for this Friday's Diesel Freight Driving experience with Peak 45041 when there are still a few places available. The issue has been resolved, so if anyone fancies having a fun half day playing with the freight rake behind a big diesel, now's your chance

This weekend, the flexible "hop on hop off" Rover tickets are returning with walk-on tickets available from all 5 stations ( although you can buy tickets online if you wish) . No more allocated seats and the train will consist of a mix of open and compartment mark 1s. Masks are encouraged in busier areas but will not be forced, in line with government guidance. Certain aspects such as cleaning trains between trips and hand sanitiser points will remain.

To celebrate this for this weekend only for every 1 adult rover ( £18) up to 3 children can travel for a £1 so great for families/grandchildren etc.
Yellow timetable in operation consisting of 3 round trips of the line.
Class 45 diesel (45041) on Saturday (24 July), and then Polish tank engine 5485 will operate services on Sunday (25 July).

Any idea/ updates as to when 34081 will be up and running again?

 

Firebox repairs almost complete. Then there's getting it all tested and signed off by the inspector, followed by refitting all the cladding etc that's been removed so we're a week or three yet from service trains.

 

Opinion is divided but the Railway has the Swedish Railcar and soon its trailer to fill the need of a railcar. Also the Class 14 and the Peak if diesel haulage is needed for any reason.
The Swedish railcar is a USP for the railway, the Nodding Donkey is not. When it was first suggested that one of these contraptions should come to the railway, arguments against it included the taking up of siding space, introducing a new maintenance regime and the need for storage of spares. I would be interested to know what has prompted the volte face.
