Traksy shows not, but I thought there was a crossover just east of the station. There is also a trailing crossover at Latchmere Junction itself, which would require a wrong line move to get to I imagine.

Service train using 17 was shown via open train times to wrong road from just after Imperial wharf to the crossover before platform 17

While we're waiting, is anyone certain that it was a planned water stop or could there be a different problem?

Yes, and Traksy also shows p17 signalled for a NB departures. Perhaps the crossover is missing from the app. However, I think a train of this length would need to draw up beyond the SB starter at p17 to clear the NB starter, so tying up the BML down slow. Difficult spot to try that.

Was hoping to see this twice in the Hastings area but not looking promising.
If they do get moving again I assume that they may be able to reprogram by just staying at Eastbourne until the late afternoon return to Southend and miss out the Hastings/Eastbourne return at lunch time?

Nothing says it was going to. But then again Mayflower doesn't have the best track report in terms of reliability on a personal observation.

Water tanker arrived. 90 minutes late now so will probably be at least 2 hours down on departure.

I seem to remember Clan Line having an interesting time getting away from P17 in the up direction with 500 tons of Pullmans.

It's a tricky start, with sharp reverse curves and a steep gradient for the rear half. Throw in Bulleids' slipping tendency and you have the recipe.

Well, the tanker's arrival seems to answer my question. Wonder what happened to it. Train now at p17, 121L on RTT.

The improved Jarvis/Bulleids have no more tendency to slip than any other Pacific. I think that Wayne who sometimes posts on here will confirm that, I'm sure he was driving at the time of the incident I referred to.

RTT is stating the first movement from Eastbourne to Hastings is cancelled, implying it'll only go there once now.

Given what others have said about it flying, and watching it on OTT, it's done well to be arriving at Eastbourne around 70 late having left clapham 2 hours down.

Passed me at Earlswood with very little effort from 61306 - perhaps coasting on the gentle downhill stretch.

If you say so - I wasn't impugning any drivers, by the way.

Is there information about the water tanker that can be shared here?

A close crop from my shots this morning - there is water gushing directly onto the juice rail from the loco just below the cab. Bearing in mind the events at Poole on the 3rd with 35018 (stopped to examine possible third rail contact, I believe), is there any significant risk of shorting/other electrical problems with a possible 'solid' stream of water from the loco to the 750v? I also wonder when may have been the last time a steam loco took water at a platform (rather than the yard) at Clapham Junction - were there ever water cranes on the platforms there?
