How much work does the little 0-4-0ST actually do in that formation? Is it just a case of providing the steam and smoke to look pretty for the public and braking when the lead vehicle, while the diesel at the back does all the hard work?

People are upset because of the way the SDRT has been treated, etc, etc, etc, etc, not because they don't get along with JJP et al personally. I expect a lot of the people who are upset with them have never even interacted with most of them. (Wrong thread, I know, but I wanted to keep the replies en-thread.)

My family and myself managed to get a ride on Peak Rail, the last train on Sunday. We were impressed with the booking process, specially as we wanted something a bit complicated (my mum is in a wheelchair). All handled very well, and sensible covid precautions in place (screens in the open carridge, the table across from you not occupied). And I love the little engine 'Eustace Forth', what a little beauty! img_9948.jpg

Did some filming of the services yesterday and today, great to see action on the line once again after so long, looking forward to seeing 5553 out and about soon!

It’s raining, who ordered the rain

Did a rewire of Rowsley loc cupboard today pre rain as we’d spotted some old wiring wanted replacing, also found a few faults along the way including the platform bell fault Shaun spotted the other week and also the transformer rectifier for the cupboard which had been temperamental last week has given up the ghost which was lucky timewise really so that’s been replaced temporarily with an older one till we get it repaired.

The permanent way department were out and about down Matlock way and the station team getting everything ready for the weekend.

Mr Briddon was having a waggon delivered,he says it’s an ex German railways wartime fuel tank waggon converted to a flat waggon, it used to be for carrying rocket fuel from the Peenemunde rocket factory that was a wartime secret rocket production facility ( actually was interested in this back in My younger years)

Apart from that had a quick chat with Ben and bumped into Leroy the visiting local cat, cuteness

Andrew and myself narrowly avoided the rain yesterday with a few jobs, the signalling loc at Rowsley has had a sort out and move around, the batteries are now on a plastic shelf rather than the original wooden one which just soaked up battery electrolyte. The relays have also been separated onto their own little shelf and some more of the wiring renewed or tidied up

That done and a patch of sun appearing we headed off to church lane to look at the middle vertical spar upon the balcony, the spar it appears was an original three cornered upright from somewhere else (midland boxes bits fit anywhere) and rather than put filling blocks into the old holes it was simply faced off with a bit of ply which over time has let water in, so a new post has been fitted and all the holes for the stringers red rolled and Andrew is making some new mortised pieces for the bottom which will get fitted next time and if weather permits a repaint too, I also took the chance to fill in any water prone gaps with the epoxy filler resin while there.

Also nice and busy with passengers, trains are good wet weather days out

It moves the lot when it's leading, I don't think the diesel crew normally take power. Those 14" Hawthorne/RSH locos are total weapons, they steam like witches, and plenty of poke too.
People sneer at industrials, but actually a good 14" Hawthorne is all a lot of railways really need to do the task in hand!

Mad dogs and s and t get everything done before the midday sun

John Andrew and myself started the morning off at Rowsley clearing the last bit of the old cart track off so it can be tidied up and used as a bit of a garden/seated bench area , there’s a small bit of concrete repair to do and we dropped the stone sets level to the road edge so that can be done in the autumn, Rodney is continuing tidying it up back to a neat state around the edge and the island garden and thanks to Tony and John for the gardening around the box, John has also fitted some speakers to the audiovisual display under the box for when we have eventually an open day again

Moving on from that we nipped upto church lane to fit the metal
Stringers to the box balcony and prime and paint up the nee woodwork on the upright and the black gloss finished, the white gloss will be next time and some balcony work on the front of the box.

I'd strongly suggest you deal directly with the ORR and send nothing via the PR management unless you absolutely have to.

I am sure there are two sides to the story. Presumably PR has the operators license and HST are running brake van rides. Not unreasonable to expect proper docs.

But should have been sorted earlier.

Lets turn up and take advantage of, hopefully getting up close.

Not sure what to make of this. Were HST playing on Peak Rail with no documentation and PR had no issue with it until now or can they not pull it together in time?

Well I hope it worked for them. Can you have too many 03s and 04s? I think there are 6 of each.

Nice day, nice people. Well done HST.

Given the number of individuals and supporting groups the incumbent regime has brassed off in recent years you can rest assured that this is classic PR Management in action. It takes a special kind of MD to report a group to the ORR instead of planning ahead and working constructively with said group on how they can mutually support each other and become one of the star Rowsley attractions.

It isn’t the first time PR’s MD has pulled the rug from under the HST’s feet. It looks like vindictive payback for an anonymous complaint (allegedly) made to the local authority last year about the (alleged) intended burial of asbestos garage waste on PR’s site that was (allegedly) agreed by a PR Director (can’t think who that might be) and (allegedly) stopped by Environmental Health…

Regime supporters can rest easy knowing that the Dear Leader is still firmly in control.

Another warm day today. Called in early doors to darley to drop some bits off for Peter and the telephone exchange work, then proceeded to fit a white sighting half moon to the midland ground doll no2 to aid sighting by Loco crews, that done nipped upto church lane to do some testing and look at another job and then upto Rowsley, the box has had a good clean out and the floor and shelf rewaxed again and the av screen moved to a better position mid box with all its associated wiring redone thanks to John and myself

The day ended with Rodney breaking up some of the concrete round the door so we can finally get a full block path edge right upto the door frame avoiding the rear box concrete leg that was in the way, Gordon and Roy dropped of more blocks for us thatl be a winter job putting in a path round the other side

The pway were out on foliage clearance with the works train and it was good to catch up with the shed gang , work has started sanding down 5553 for its repaint.

I managed to chat with mencap too who will do a bit of weeding about when they can around the cleaned up Old cart track
