Moorbarrow is out of the shed and almost ready to run. She will be back in traffic this weekend for the first time in 2.5 years. In the meantime enjoy the pictures….well done team!

Looking very smart, the lining does make it look smarter than the unlined blue she was in previously (IMHO). Congratulations and well done to the team on a restoration which, aesthetically as least, has been very well done! I'm sure mechanically she'll be in good nick too!

Well done to the Gwili MPD team and TVR volunteers who have done a fantastic job with Moorbarrow’s restoration under difficult COVID 19 conditions. Moorbarrow ran like a dream, the 10 year overhaul is to the highest standards, she never missed a beat and she is a credit to all those at the Gwili Railway for their hours, weeks and months of dedication. A special mention to Dewi and his paint shop team for all those late nights, your efforts and paint job are remarkable and greatly appreciated. Finally, a big thank you to the volunteers who came in on their own time to permit Moorbarrow’s successful trial runs today and to the young volunteer who was pictured inside the saddle tank doing the dirty job of clearing years of sludge !!!

A very happy weekend with lots going on. Star of the show Moorbarrow has been a hit with the passengers and in amongst the excitement a few other bits. Aberthaw diesel being painted back into its original livery and on the vintage carriage front we have picked up some TVR luggage castings and the spring hanger parts are being made ready to reassemble on TVR 220.

    regards

    Matt

    Hi all,

The Gwili Steam Railway will be holding an End of Season Gala on Saturday 9th October 2021. Locomotives in use will be:

    - 55xx 'Small Prairie' No.5526 (visiting until January)
    - RSH No.7849 'Moorbarrow' (recently overhauled)
    - D2178

The event will have a busy timetable, featuring double-heading, banking and more. There will also be a couple of miniature traction engines at Bronwydd Arms, alongside other activities TBC. We will also be marking 25 years since the Caerphilly Railway Society brought their rolling stock and collection to the Gwili; they have been an important part of the railway ever since.

We will also be doing a (free) online gala programme for the event, which will be available to download in advance. The working and public timetables will also be available for free, prior to the day.

Further details (as well as booking) to follow. If you've got any questions (or suggestions of what to do during the event), please do get in contact.

Presumably, 5526, after its stint at the Dartmouth line.

Two quick updates on the upcoming gala (Sat 9th Oct)...

    1. During the day, there will be an informal opening ceremony for "The Book Shed" (new GRPS shop at Bronwydd Arms, selling second-hand railway books/DVDs etc).

    2. During the gala, passengers will be able to travel on any passenger train (ie all tickets are rovers). However, pre-booking is advised; details for booking will be available soon.

    Hi,

I saw some sad pictures of carmarthens Station building on the opposite side of the river to the current station. As the gwili have done an amazing job in the past giving a home to railway buildings, is it possible this building could be saved and used at abergwili?

    Regards,
    Tom
