    A video of this morning's departure from Paddington indicates 61306 + Load 10 + 47772.

Shame as we had a brilliant run with the loco to SoA on 18th October 2015. Was it really that long ago? It was in the good old days; outward and return via Saunderton.

I do wonder, as a general point, whether we are moving to a time when the use of a diesel is seen as useful/convenient/operationally sound and the market research tell operators that actually it makes no difference as to whether the majority of passengers book or not.

Let's face it. Sixty years on the travelling demographic is changing to people who never knew steam on the main line so for them it's a novelty and whether or not there's a diesel is irrelevant.

Steam Dreams has a loco that does stuff where a diesel is essential. Neither can it lug more than about 10 on its own. LSL seems not to be bothered. That leaves DBC who seldom uses a diesel but never expects it to do anything and West Coast who, to be fair, try to ensure that their Fells trips are diesel free.

But then there is the Northern Belle.....

I suspect it was a necessity today as I'm presuming that with the Shakespeare also running that the coaches cannot be left in Stratford.

Only 4 trips? I remember when Steam Dreams used to do 8-10 Christmas trips. Is this the Covid effect or is the market just not there any more?

Or lack of available locos? Tornado is already listed for 6nr RTC trips.

Looks like we were on opposite platforms at Banbury.
(I was the one with the confused looking border collie, who was wondering why we'd walked all the way to the station and then left again without getting on a train!)

A quick trip out this morning to see Mayflower. Working nicely past a foot crossing between the site of Bentley Station and where the Hadleigh line branched off.
