Struck lucky Friday getting my first steam since 2019. 43924 was what I had hoped for on KWVR (current roster not shown on website), but then L&Y 957 appeared, double heading. It was attached at the shed 'loop' at Haworth on 1425 ex Keighley and the pair stayed out to end of service. 957 will obviously be staring at the Railway Children event this w/e. One of those afternoons enjoyed by just a handful of enthusiasts, in the right place at the right time.

The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway on the 28th August 2021, during the first day of their 'Railway Children' Bank Holiday gala. Services were hauled by LMS 4F No.43924, USATC S160 No.5820 and recently overhauled L&Y Ironclad No.957, returning as 'The (luminous) Green Dragon'.

If that is supposed to be the same livery as the 1970 film, it's way out.

Far too light, no GNSR lettering on the tender and the thick white lining needs a black line along the center line. I'm also fairly sure it didn't have the brass number plate but will have to look that up.

But still good to see it back in steam and hope the mechanics are better than the paint job.

Marvellous, a criticism about a fictional livery, never mind that a loco’s just returned to traffic :Gagmewithaspoon:
Anything else you’d like? Perhaps the Goods Shed at Haworth could do with moving a little to the left?

Whilst the owners of the loco have every right to paint it in any colour scheme, it’s meant to be a reprise of its livery in the film. As such, it fails miserably. There’s nothing incorrect or opinionated in Robin’s post, which was also positive about its return to service.

Go on then Steve, if you know where it’s owners can get the correct spec paint then point them in the right direction, I appreciate its not quite right but after all the effort and money to get 957 back into traffic, My own opinion is it’s a little disrespectful to complain about it not being ‘the right shade of green’.
Is it possibly some sort of undercoat before the correct shade of black is applied?

I knew I had a detailed picture of the correct livery, Oakworth station in May 1970. No real excuses since they did such a good job with 41241 recreating the correct livery of the reopening special.

At the end of the day it's only a coat of paint, but it is part of the history of the loco and as such should have been properly researched.

Amazing how a coat of paint doesn't matter when it's wrong, but is lauded when got right...

From a humble painter who thinks it is more than just a device to stop the machine rusting :)

Yes congratulations to the owners for investing in such a bold and eye catching shade of dragon green! It will be a hit with the kids, which after all is the priority rather than any comments about it not being the correct shade of fictitious green from 40 years ago. If folks want it painted differently I’m sure the owners will be delighted to receive donations!

Not sure why I’ve been quoted here? I never actually shared my views on the colour (other than jesting it being ‘luminous’ - which it is when in the sun), therefore I didn’t offer a negative view, nor did I suggest it should be painted a different colour!

    Sorry for bringing this up.
I know that Keighley have got and had a lot of 2-8-0's in the past, so just out of interest (nothing to with the "G" word).

Could this run on their railway?[IMG]

The Wheelbase of the Q6 is justover 17ft, the wheelbase of the WD 2-8-0 is 24ft 10in but that includes a leading pony truck which is obviously articulated. At a guess, I'd say that it probably can, but that's not taking gauging or weight into account!

Oh, true! I know they’ve had 92220 before but that would be banned now.

Why would it? Why isn't 92134 banned at the NYMR in that case? Some of the curves on the NYMR are probably tighter (or at least as tight as) any on the KWVR.
