Just another day on the WCML with Stanier 4-6-0s in their natural environment.

With the the air still chilly from the morning mists 46100 headed south from Crewe to Southall past Millmeece at 08:25. Six and a half hours later just before 3pm with the car telling me the temperature is 29 degrees 45596 passes Cranberry en route from Orton Mere to Crewe.

At the end of steam both classes would have been adorned with a yellow stripe on the cab side banning them from this route.

Taken by surprise yesterday, saw what was 262K, type 40 towing green liveried inspection saloon through the Calder Valley, reversing at Hebden Bridge, then presumably "pushing " to Hellifield?

It was 37558 with Inspection Saloon 975025. The saloon was leading from Leeds to Hellifield when I saw it at Cononley.

...and a signalman in a proper box would have sent 'stop and examine' to the next cabin after seeing the open door in the 'Scots' support coach!

And that 4/5ths of the second coach is missing in the picture of 45596!
