On the assumption that they will actually treat all 4 votes as a single election (hopefully!), one wonders what happens if the number of votes in favour less the number of votes against comes to the same for two or more candidates in final position? Do they take into account the number of passes you had in the specialist round? ;)

Looks very nice indeed, but I think the wire needs a little adjustment as the 'off' position seems a bit 'steep' - too much like the GWR :)

Nigel did say they might look into the angle at some point, the main thing was to get it operational for the gala weekend,

Only the up and down starters were made, the up home had two different positions in its time, the down starter has to be made operational at some point

I have yet to understand the significance of @ in front of someone's handle. People here have occasionally quoted mine thus but no notifications have come to me as a result.

Meanwhile I paid a visit to the Gala this morning. All quite busy with a nice mixture of enthusiasts and families and lots of volunteers working well, with a special mention for the ladies in the refreshment area who kept things moving. And hats off to Stuart Nelhams who was walking round handing out cake to volunteers and talking to visitors about the Railway and its plans.

I too went to the gala today, my first visit to anything L&B. A long day trip from Cheltenham! But I wasn't disappointed. Incredible to know that whole trains have been built from nothing such is the enthusiasm. The brake van rides were good and the guard on board was a superb ambassador for the railway. The displays explaining all about the proposed extensions, what land is owned by whom etc. were all also most informative and particularly helpful for those of us not too familiar with the area but who have been following developments. I look forward to a return visit when the journey is a little longer :)

The finial for the third signal is in the store-room ex Gents (I think) due to be returned to the needs of menfolk when the extraneous additions are removed and the slate leaning against the wall is put in position. The stub of the second up home of April 1926 is still up the bank about 11ft 6" above the trackbed about 62 yards north of the Down Starter.

I think also a third spectical plate is there, the slate is fitted apart from the central partition, it's a shame that I didn't bump into you at Chelfham yesterday so that I could have personally thanked you for your help regarding the positioning of the signals and the files you shared in relation to the roof finials for Bratton Fleming Station which hopefully are now being reproduced in Appledore

Good that the Gala went well and was obviously appreciated. Does anybody know how the AGM's went on Saturday?

It had just been unearthed on one of my previous visits to Chelfham, but since then I've not had the chance actually to go and see it. Any chance that someone could post a photo of it sometime please? I am assuming that it was wood....

Yes, Chris, it is a wood stump, but sky-hooks were not available, only a collapsible ladder, and I didn't think to photograph it. The trackside edge of the wood post is about 8ft 6" horizontally to the foot of the bank and it is bedded in a concrete block, about 2ft 3" along the track and 1ft 8" vertically showing on the railside, although, of course the rain could have washed away the soil. The trackbed is about 13 ft wide at this point. I assume the move from the west side of the line to the east was prompted by the tree growth since 1897. Back nearer the down starter are bits of the cast iron water tank buried in the ballast, presumably the smaller bits left after clearing up following the work with the sledge hammers.

Had a very enjoyable time spent filming and riding on the Sunday of the autumn gala. Here are the results of the filming part, which I hope you enjoy :)
