Hardly surprising that this character has turned off any comments as they would get plenty!

I did the CCE several times in the late 70's early 80's. They only went to Sellafield originally, but generally with 2 pacifics, one in each direction, ,all for £12 return. None of this wining and dining nonsense, and full of enthusiasts, which is what railtours were intended for, and still should be imo.

Looking at the typical passengers on today's charters it is obvious that the 'enthusiasts' only make up a small percentage of the 300+ people on board. Charter companies are in business to make money, you have to face facts, running with just your enthusiasts would never do that.

And if those "intended" enthusiasts don't book enough seats or don't cover the cost of running the railtour, what does the railtour operator do then?

This does highlight the self-important views of some enthusiasts who seem to think that railtour operators and heritage railways are just there to pander to their fickle interests.

From a different forum about a cancelled electric and diesel tour to Carlisle on Saturday run it at a loss apparently.

And with photo stops, sometimes at the lineside away from a station, run-pasts occasionally. Very rarely dumped in a loop with no egress.
