You may be right. I suspect it is a hardy perennial, the kind of idea that comes up repeatedly from time to time, since on the surface it looks very plausible, but as you suggest, the devil is in the detail.

We are hoping to run tours on Saturday 9th - probably at 11.00, 11.45, 12.30, 2.00, 2.45, and 3.30 (times subject to change) and the Hastings Maunsell will be centre stage.
As always tours will be free but if anyone wishes to show their appreciation donations towards the Maunsell Restaurant Car which should be the next volunteer restoration following straight on the the Hastings Maunsell will be most welcome.

I'd love to make it down for a tour. There's a good few projects coming to final fruition right now. Apart from the Hastings brake, Stroudley brake 949 is at long last nearing completion- the last edition of "Brighton Matters" mentioned something about "first topcoat of mahogany brown"! Stroudley 3rd 328 is catching up fast, and although I haven't seen a detailed update for a while, Car no.54 must surely be well on the final gallop now, so a lot to whet the appetite there for everyone.

There's a short update on 949, and a slightly longer one on 3687, in Friday's edition of Bluebell Times.

Having just come back from an enjoyable day at Giants of Steam, it was my first visit in exactly 2 years (the longest I think I've gone between visits since 1995, thanks to Covid).

Did notice a few things that I wasn't away of such as the final road into OP4 has been laid with stock inside and Ketches Halt and the TPO post have been dismantled.

One question however, where is 9017? I don't recall seeing it on my last visit and didn't spot it today.

Ah ok thanks. I did have a look in there before I left but could only make out the 09 in there, but was a bit dark to make anything else out.

Got to say that, in my experience, its not the best of locos although things could have changed since then.
