I hadn't realised she had a second name, AIUI she was always referred to as No.9.

In today's P&J. Play a game and spot the error anyone?

With Number 9 now seemingly retired for the last time - it only seems fit to add a few pictures from my own collection of her.

I'm sure I've written before as to how she became my first A4 for sight, Mainline Steam tour and to have (had the priviledge) to drive and fire her - so the following pics contain some of my most treasured and poignant memories of Number 9.

Simmering at the Cross - Dec 2005:

    Kings Cross Dec 2005.JPG

About to attach to the front of the Scottish Lowlander - Carlisle 2014 - the acceleration once over the summit at Beattock will live with me forever and I'm so glad I have it captured on video.

    Carlisle - Scottish Lowlander 2014.JPG

Awaiting deptarture from Worcester Shrub Hill - Feb 2019 - My sons first Mainline steam tour.

    Worcester Feb 2019.JPG

I think being in B/W really makes this image, just seems to bring out every detail of the A4's graceful lines, but also shows how a machine can seem to be alive; the smoke and steam just adds that final touch and is one of my favourite pictures that I've taken. She was looking rather tired and forlorn at the ELR this weekend. Tucked away on platform 1 she felt a bit like an afterthought rather than the star of the show she was intended to be. Practically speaking, with such a busy gala timetable, there was nowhere else she could have gone, but it felt a bit like a sad end to an illustrious career.

Bonus points to whoever came with the fantastic labour-saving way to empty the tender by charging people a quid for a souvenir piece of coal. Saves time and effort for someone and raises cash into the bargain. Neat.

Is anyone wise to where she may be heading for storage?

Can only photograph it when it runs !! The S&C weather in particular doesn't help that situation !

Oh I dunno ... after all, you don't want to end up being on the wrong end of any claim by some litigious pillock who booked a Cumbrian holiday on the back of an impression given by loads of shots in bright sunshine!

I'm right behind the comments your fantastic tribute deserves to be published. I do hope you've been able to email it to somewhere Mr Cameron can enjoy it too.

John Cameron has a personal (signed) copy.

I have subsequently learned that John Cameron has suffered a domestic accident resulting in his being hospitalised and, although out of intensive care, his recovery from his (fracture) injuries is expected to be a lengthy one.
I am sure all will join with me in sending him best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Planning permission has now been granted for 60009 & 61994's new home (inside an existing building) at Balbuthie.

Handy as the Kinneuchar Inn and Bowhouse are either side of it.

Really pleased for John Cameron. I must tell you as someone who was born in Fife and lived in Fife my whole life that Fife Council have always been to put it politely a bunch of idiots. I can’t think of a good word to use to describe them for many reasons I won’t go into but I’m glad that Mr Cameron kept persisting and finally they have approved his ambition. Whilst I’m sad that N0 9 (61994 too!) will soon head to its retirement home I must say a huge thank you to Mr Cameron for keeping N0 9 in operation for so long and in the process giving me and loads of others happy memories. My stand out being the SRPS highland mainline trip in 2009 which was the first time N0 9 had worked an SRPS tour since 1993.

Excellent news. The local planning authority has been a disgrace.

I've had the pleasure of speaking to JC a couple of times and I'm really pleased to see that he will be able to realise his hopes for a permanent home for 60009 and 61994. I always liked how 60009 always looked like it was a working engine rather than a shiny show pony.

I certainly won't forget a brake van ride on the NVR with 60009 propelling it!

So soon there'll be a big empty space at Buckley Wells ....... pity the ELR had to evict the former long-term exhibits there for such short term gain.
