The actual answer would appear to be the 3' gauge Hudswell-Clarke 0-4-0ST "Handyman", which is reported in the latest edition of Steam Railway.

I'm more amazed by the display of intellegence involved in de-accesioning the "Barnum" coach, which was removed from Ruddington within the last year, presumably at some expense to the NRM, only for them to decide that they don't actually want the thing.....
Surely they would have been better to leave it there and seek takers for it from Ruddington (not that they apparently have had any interest in the thing according to SR).............

Where could run it? Southwold? Isle of Man (if we are allowed to export it). Anywhere in NI or Ireland?

Apparently the Halesworth & Southwold group are interested in it, though there is interest from someone else as well.....

If they get it, then with the new Sharpie under construction, Scaldwell and now this, they may have a longer length of loco stud than running line...

Don't forget there are two Southwold groups!
    a) The Southwold Railway (based at Southwold) has the well under construction new Sharpie and Scaldwell.
    b) The Halesworth and Southwold Railway are the ones apparently interested in this NRM de-accessioned loco, plus they have announced plans to build (a different) Sharpie....

Don't know the history as have never been involved with either group, but get the impression the Halesworth set up originated as a splinter group from Southwold due to the lack of progress being made there up to a few years ago. Halesworth residents appear to be more amenable to the railway rebuild than the Southwold end!
The Halesworth group do seem to be linked in some informal way (ie common pool of volunteers in some cases) with the Mid Suffolk and the Leiston Works Railway from what I have noticed on their respective Facebook pages.
Both groups seem to exist without any animosity between them, unlike other railways I could think of.....

At least they've each got their own trainset. End-on junction in Wenhaston?

The southwold mob definitely have stuff from Halesworth until 2016, so a spin-off seems to be the way

The whole Southwold thing seems very disagregated, probably no bad thing at this stage, but they'll need to be a bit more organised when they start running.

I believe that the leader of one of the Southwold groups was very controversially antagonistic towards the FR when he was chairman of the WHHR, so there is prior form there.

I have an idea on the next item to be de-accessioned, but I suspect typing those 5 digits would get me suspended for a while!
If not by the moderators, but by the supporters of a major railway company from a lattice signal post.

    Cheers, Neil

    Does it begin with a 3 ;)
seriously though, With The NRM turning into a Playground/ tea room, I would expect sooner or later, that engines currently on long term loan to preserved railways, might just be gifted to that railway, with strings attached, i.e. you can't sell them, or the entire collection dispersed to the preservation world, with only a few selected engines, that are just museum pieces left at York, or out stationed to Shilton, for instance, would the bluebell welcome Gladstone, and 737, would the Mid hands want Churchill and the Q1?

Certainly the Science Museum Group appear to be realising that some of the things they have spirited away in the likes of Wroughton are never going to receive the attention/display there that they deserve so have slowly started to put some of them up for de-accesion. Might be worth any suitably structured preservation group contacting them direct if they have something that may fit in with their defined collecting policy. Don't expect the process to happen overnight though!
Don't know whether that would apply to the NRM side of things though if a particular loco or item of rolling stock would be of interest.....

Are the lathe and grinder from the NRM workshop ?
Sorry to see the Class 76 removed from MOSI
Surely the wagon should go with Handyman to Statfold as an appropriate vehicle to be with the loco

I have an increasing level of despair with regard to the NRM and how our railway history is portrayed within the SMG (I'm sorry to a good friend of mine on here who I know fights the enthusiasts corner in SMG) Perhaps the heritage movement does too good a job at recreating the past rendering a national collection less necessary

They are required to announce the de-accession of items officially in that Quarterly listing as a means of advising the Museum world that the process is under way, even if suitable homes have already been lined up for those items in seperate negotiations.
That may be the case for the Scaldwell wagon as it does seem logical for it to go with the appropriate locomotive.....

Presumably the 76 cab is deemed surplus as they have a complete EM2 on display there, though that will have its revised NS cab layout rather than the BR one.

No, bit it does include a three in the number. Beyond that I'm on very thin ice...

34051 has been comprehensively "borrowed from" to keep a variety of Bullied pacifics working, so would be a major overhaul.

    Cheers, Neil
