A true statement!

 

The ticket price is a bargain, the Surrey Hills was £395 when I last looked.

 

Full info on pricing :-

"To maximise our fundraising and to comply with HMRC regulations we need to outline the suggested pricing. The actual cost of a single ticket to Railway Children is £300, plus a suggested voluntary donation of £450 per seat.

PRICING £300 represents the actual cost of the seat ticket to Railway Children. Donations are voluntary and do not affect your entry to this event. Every donation contributes directly to children who are forced to leave homes that have become unbearable through poverty, abuse, violence and neglect. If you wish to help the charity with its mission, then a donation on top of the ticket price would be much appreciated.

GIFT AID Your donation is eligible for Gift Aid.

VAT This event is not subject to VAT. Full details will be given on your invoice."

 

I was thinking that which is why I was surprised at the ticket price. I hope it’s made clear when booking that the ticket is at cost price.
I assume Belmond are making a donation or at least taking no profit. I don’t think the loco owners will be able to offer their services at less than cost as they are both registered charities

You have to send a email to them to enquire about it, and they send an email to you with a booking form attached. The text on pricing is from the email I received.
I was curious about how much more than the Belmond it would cost.

Poor old 'Evening Star' was in trouble so the mighty 'Hardwicke' had to rescue it! What a great shot of a bizarre working.

I think 'Hardwicke' was on the front to just carry the lamps and the headboard! Shot taken in 1976 from a foot crossing, can't remember where.

 

I was on The Gresley Centenarian the same day. Had that combo between Leeds and York via Harrogate.
