Not sure the passengers could have detrained as AFAIK water was taken in the goods loop.

Running in to Platform 7 at Shrewsbury below the mock Tudor tower and chimneys of the station.

Bit of a theme for the passengers as they spent their time in Hereford in the middle road.

Surely the water would have been a tanker if in the goods loop - negating any pressure issues?

Realtime was showing it as having gone into the goods loop, and when I've seen Tornado take water there in the past it's been from a tanker parked in the slot next to the crossing.

I'm not aware of any chambers along the road near there for a standpipe, and Severn Trent only allow license holders to use "Wash Out" chambers not "Fire Hydrant" ones anyway.
...Of course that might be the problem if they had to lay out three quarters of a mile of hose to the nearest standpipe the water authority will let them use!

Not all tankers that are used at present have pumps that can deliver anything approaching the flow that is needed. No idea whether that was the issue at CA.

There are problems with the normal water supplier at present and the substitute tankers don’t seem to have the same delivery rate although the time taken in this case was exceptional

Another problem today for Tornado. The move from Bristol to Southall has been cancelled 'due to a problem with a steam locomotive (ME)'. <BJ>

Wonder if that is to do with one of the tyres as apparently there was a problem with one identified on arrival at Chester but ultimately it was decided it was okay to continue.

Yes that was certainly the case at Haslemere with 35028 last Sunday, it took nearly 40 mins to fill up.

Not certain that's true as 30 min was allowed for the water stop and the train was only stationary for 35, leaving on time having arrived early, so I reckon that it took the 30 min allowed to water. That said, as you say, this is longer than water stops used to be. It looks to me as though the water stops are planned to give enough time against water flow available. I've no idea whether that's the case everywhere else though.

Let's hope not. Tornado is scheduled for several RTC trips this side of Christmas before withdrawal for overhaul.

Does this mean next weeks steam dreams 18.11.2021 Kings X York steam off a Doncaster has been thrown into doubt cos the only diagram I can think of there if 60163 (has failed with what mentioned previously) it could only be 61306 mayflower or 60103 if not the dreaded diesel york hauled tour throughout or cancellation and full refund from steam dreams. Do i ever get good luck on my side:eek::( davo 56F
