Via Redhill one way and the Otford loop back due to engineering work.

Many thanks for the information. Redhill is very good news for me! Depending on timings, I may see you at Hildenborough again if it passes in daylight!

Nothing confusing, it’s clearly a typo. 35018 can’t work the Pullmans, it’s not equipped to work air braked stock

Well, it IS confusing if one doesn't know that. Yes, it's a typo, but they can be, and are, confusing.

just seen this on the steam dreams thread

Apparently I've had a facebook message off steam dreams Admin saying that if tornado passes its F.T.R. tomorrow it will be moved from bristol to southall if the tyre on the wheel is fixable I will be let know tomorrow and so will other passengers travelling on the Kings X York steam dreams tour on thursday.

If it isn’t fixed by Sunday something will have to be done about the Rail Aid train. It’s too much of an ask to expect Clan Line to take over 500 tons up Martin Mill Bank from the Dover end unassisted.

The route is not up from Dover. The Pullmans have done it before with Clan Line. However, this is November when caution is wisdom.

News from another thread has confirmed Tornado has been withdrawn from the mainline due to a number of wheel flats, so best guess is Clan Line goes on her own with diesel assistance?

I apologies that I was given wrong information about the direction it would take and the route is via Deal to Dover. In the past 28 has shown itself capable of taking 500 tons up Martin Mill Bank southbound without assistance, the last time earlier this year after being reduced to walking pace at Deal by a signal check. However, it is still leaf fall season and a diesel is normally provided on the Surrey Hills as insurance.
The ideal solution would be to get a substitute loco, 46233 would be much better than Tornado but who knows

It was wishful thinking, realistically it will be a DB diesel

A 67 coupled inside... A huge shame that 60163 has tyre problems (did the loco slide badly recently?), but I imagine everyone has booked by now so it won't affect takings.

The sort of passengers who will book on this won’t be bothered. The diesel is there for insurance, it will only cut in if needed. It’s standard practice on the Surrey Hills in the leaf fall season for Gomshall Bank but it’s always on the back.

It's nice that the MNLPS has decided to update everyone about Sunday rather than the sponsors RailAid who continue to have the original publicity.

Yes, obviously it won't be powering all the time, but if no-one who is paying to travel cares, why have a second steam loco booked in the first place - why not just have a 67 and save money, a steam crew, etc., or even just have diesel with no steam?

It's probably fully-booked by now anyway so the publicity being wrong won't affect takings. I think the MNLPS has a good record on updating things like this which train operators would do well to learn from.

Because it was going to be a unique spectacle and it's a shame that it can't be now but the type of passenger on it won't complain too much. A disappointment for Sir Peter Hendry as I think they are his two favourite engines.

Yes, obviously they won't complain, but that's not the point. I wasn't complaining that 60163 is unavailable, rather I was just saying it's a pity that the special element has been removed, and that they are left with a glorified Surrey Hills trip. To claim they "won't be bothered" is odd as it implies they didn't care much anyway, whereas actually the key draw of the trip, the 8P double-heading, has gone. It's Peter Hendy, BTW.
