In British rail days with the iron clad MK1 coaches I wonder if someone may know this on nat pres what was the maximum load of carriages allowed up Lickey or what was the maximum recorded been heaved up the Lickey bank?

Not in BR days but the heaviest load on an unassisted climb in preservation was the SVRs 8F 48773 with 9 on.

I should think it did flatten it with only 6 coaches on tow. The first time i did it was 1961 behind a scot on an ian allan railtour to Swindon works, towing 12 coaches i think! Mind you, there were a couple of jintys helping on the return journey between Bromsgrove and Blackwell. Now lets see what a real engine can do.....only jesting!!

What a fantastic trip! VT deserve huge credit for arranging this event. I hope it shows that it can still be possible and financially viable to put on steam trips for enthusiasts as well as the fine-dining folks.

The Duchess was going all guns blazing through a busy Bromsgrove station. Speed maybe looked a touch more than Clun earlier on, anyone able to confirm ?

Duchess speed through Bromsgrove 61 mph compared with 63 for Clun Castle. Duchess minimum 33 mph, same as Clun Castle.

I think the Castle shaded it with a more vigorous recovery from Stoke Works Jn 30 mph slack.

Here's my footage of 7029 Clun Castle roaring up the Lickey Incline in the morning and 6233 Duchess of Sutherland at speed through Ladywood on the outskirts of Worcester in the afternoon. I hope you enjoy the video.

Certainly generated a lot of interest in Worcester and Bromsgrove today. As Sir Peter Parker used to say, steam warms the public to the railways in general. To anyone who asked me what was going on as I hung around various viewing spots I made sure I mentioned Vintage Trains and that if they google they will find how they can travel. Best comment of the day for me was a lady at Shrub Hill who said, and I quote ‘I like the steams but I prefer the ‘burgundy’ to the green one earlier’. Watched some videos of today's trips earlier and on the video below just after the 3 minute 20 second mark something on the Duchess makes contact with the overhead wires and causes a rather large flash and bang. Hopefully no one was injured by this incident:

You wonder how many times this happened, did they not realise something was wrong? You can actually see coal tumbling/being thrown from the tender after the bang.
