The problem with this railway is it doesn’t go by any roads and not as many people see it or know it’s there. But the south Devon goes next to some roads so more drivers pull off when they see a train so they get more visitor and volunteer. They could organise to put some volunteers at goodrington as there’s not much there at the moment and could make it more to look at

Glad to hear that you've fully researched the situation.

As you are based in Devon it appears that you've just put yourself forward for the role. Well done my friend. :) <BJ>

I'm not sure that's as important as you think – most of the time most heritage railways have no trains on them at all, so the chance of spotting a train from a road as you drive past is very low. On the other hand, the Paignton to Dartmouth line has massive visibility for anyone visiting the tourist hotspots of Goodrington Sands and Dartmouth, with the opportunity for loads of people to see the trains arriving at and leaving Kingswear. In comparison it's very easy to completely miss the Dart Valley/South Devon line, driving past on the A38, or visiting Totnes town centre.

Absolutely. Not many other places where there are large and popular beaches passed 4 times an hour by steam trains in high season, and where their passing point is adjacent to a main road.
Without in any way disparaging the SDR, I would guess their visitor numbers will only be a fraction of the PDR’s

Kingswear is little short of having a train run in front of an auditorium, such is the experience of watching departures from the station, along the bank of the river and then off up the hill. Can't be that many heritage lines as visible to the heaving masses as the PDSR…

I do not believe it is a deliberate attempt. CoTF to me seems to have a viewpoint of the world as it pertains to heritage railways, and, like many others, likes to sometimes air his opinions on this forum. That his views are sometimes markedly different from many others on NP, or not necessarily grounded in reality is not necessarily his fault and I certainly do not believe he is intentionally trying to stir up arguments or provoke others for his own enjoyment as a troll would. Having said that I do tend to avoid responding to his opinions as I do think I am unlikely to change them, but I would certainly never be rude or derogatory towards him as I would a troll as I see a little bit of my uninformed autistic childhood self in his viewpoints, and I do not want to be unnecessarily rude to somebody whose brain works in that kind of way

That's a nice piece by ITN. Some good views as well. It's a line with plenty of vantage points especially beach side and up towards Churston. The DSR seems to have taken full advantage of where they are to offer a visual treat.

This is a grate film to see so much on telly of the trains and it would have been good if they had filmed it with the big red Yanker. the S160 looks the best on the polar trains like they have done at the cholse and Wallingford railways.

They probably wanted a loco that they could rely on to stay in one piece! :) That said, wasn't it on the other end from Braveheart?

Hate to gripe, but what on earth convinced them to keep Santa Specials yet scrap the KingsBeer Festival?

I really liked the Beer Festival!
Only time I would visit the railway!
