Three Black 5’s? They are not really around that much in reality, especially not in the main season. Of the rest isn’t the Std 4 the only one that can pull full length trains solo?

Possibly but I don't really know, I don't pay much attention to the hum-drum regular days.

Not sure where the idea of "Douglas" being on fleet at ELR is, it and 828 are making up most of the fleet for the Spa Valley for 2022. The Jinty might not even be there. There was talk of it leaving for a private railway since Riley sold it to a private owner.

Are they not the days that actually keep Heritage Lines in business, along with Christmas trains?

Well there is that too. My point was it does look thin on the ground of suitable peak season locos.

ELR always seems to be a bit short on available locomotives for its status. For a while many years ago it seemed like it was reliant on mainline locomotives in between tours. City Of Wells has gone a long way to keeping services going. I can't think of anything coming back soon unless the Crab pops up before March.

Indeed, I remember a few years ago they only had 47324 available for a chunk of the season, the balance being mainline locos between tours.

Well 3 Black 5s isn't happening. 2 are probably Fort William bound in April at least.

Can't see 13065 being done for a while. I suppose a mid-season hire-in could be an option. 6990 for example visited in 2017 and 2018 respectively to cover for unavailable locomotives.

It can't be that far away since it was mooted for a return for last year. Even with lockdowns and the theft.

I think there might be some confusion here - the ELR own 47324, Ian Riley owns (or owned) 47298

I was referring to 298. It returned to service last year and saw it at the gala but the chatter was it was leaving for a private site after overhaul.

Co-incidentally, 47324 - the aim is mid 2023 so one for the 2022 edition of this thread.

In the preservation world of the 2.8.0.s G.W.R. collett 2884, and Churchward 28xx 2.8.0. It looks like there could be a famine of em if 2807 isent overhauled by mid 2022 if 2857 at S.V.R. isent granted a 6 month boiler extension. Unless 3855 owned by andy booth at E.L.R. could be completed fairly soon, or 2885 at Tyseley could be ready soon. other than those 2 G.W.R. 8F,s I'm not sure which will be running after 2807 comes back from overhaul.
And also the preserved Stanier 8F,s apart from 48305 running the only others I can think of that would be running in the next few years besides 48305 could be 48151 at 10A or 8274 and 48624. and 4 S160,s running 2253 5197 5820 6046.

    47324 is also privately owned

Don't forget 3850 also at Toddington and making good progress. Not sure if 2022 or 2023 though, if the former it'll be very late in the year I'd have thought.

Any idea on when 2807 is expected back into service; I recall mention of a 2022 return if all went well, will the pandemic have had an impact on this however?

I’d assume so - the boiler went to Riley’s in April 2020. However, work was only able to start in May 2021 which must have a knock on effect.
If you haven’t seen it there are regular updates on their blog - http://gwr2807.blogspot.com/?m=1
