Here are a selection of photos of lswr 1357 in its departmental livery, there is also a fair amount of post office red from its previous livery. There are traces of sage green from when it was originally built as a third brake corridor carriage with four compartments, luggage compartment and guards section with wheelbrake.

Great news that a home has been found for this, and all the best with your future plans for it.

Is there any update on where the dining cars might be going?

Has there been any further updates on the situation of the 2 carriages? Last time I heard anything about them was before the date that needed to be removed by.

I was wondering this myself. On the BTS Facebook page it shows a photo of their latest news magazine ‘currently in production’. Tantalisingly a picture of an LSWR dining car is visible, so there seems to be some sort of update, but I can’t see what it says.

If he is, I think you'll probably be very disappointed by the interior shots. I suspect there's very little of the interiors - and the exteriors don't look that great either!

I was hoping he meant photos of the latest BTS news magazine to be honest, so I was able to see the updates.

Yes certainly not much left of the the coach interiors, as shown on the BBC news feature in May.

It’s been announced these coaches are destined to go the MHR, and be restored by the Titanic Boat train heritage trust - a joint venture between the MHR LSWR carriage group (no I’ve not heard of them either) and the BTS. Great news.

I wonder if this is the final nail in the coffin for the proposed LBSCR 4 wheeler restorations. A project that never really made any sense.

Great news indeed and like you, not heard of the LSWR Carriage Group before. I believe there is an Ironclad in the Meon sidings but what other LSWR carriages does the MHR own? Be fantastic to one day travel in these coaches over the Alps hauled by 499.

I think the Ironclad brake is the only LSWR coach on the MHR. It may well have a part to play, as presumably a brake coach would be needed to run with the dining saloons. Unless the Ironclad brake that was at Blaenavon is moving to Hampshire too.

the LSWR Brake coach you refer to parked up on the Meon Stub , Was owned by Barry Eden, So it's unclear what happens over this coach, I would hope that this move will see the establishment of an Vintage Coaches group on the MHR, that will not just restore these coaches, but hopefully a rake of 4 wheelers also including the S&D coaches, that would enable the railway to operate a 4w rake for branch line week ends and Thomas events, As well as having the LSWR set and in time a Bulleid set.

I was in the meon siding the other week. The LSWR Iron Clad is looking much sorrier for itself than the last time I saw it.

The fact that the superstructure of the carriage is largely gone shouldn't be a problem, as long as drawings exist at the NRM. A complete new superstructure can be constructed and fitted to the underframe.
The MHR have pretty much done this with both the Bulleid coach restorations done so far.
In some ways this approach is probably easier and quicker than trying to part repair what is left.

It’s certainly interesting that things have now come full circle, and 70 & 76 are returning to the railway that unceremoniously disposed of them 30 years ago.

Great to now see the enlightened attitude towards vintage coaches at the MHR, and the impressive restorations they have already turned out.

Unlike elements of the NYMR. As I've had at least one of their TTI's openly say that the "Teaks" are difficult, without any back up supporting evidence. Bear in mind that of the operating Teaks the two TTOs seat the same number of passengers [oops customers] as the MK1 TSOs 64 with a pair of loos at one end but no centre door, the BTO also seats the same numbers a MK1 BSO 32.....
