It was always going to be 5542 0r 6430 but not both. Good work by SDR staff working on Christmas Eve to get 6430 ready.

LLangollen cancelled because of Welsh Gov restrictions. Gwili have cancelled their post Christmas light trains for the same reason.

I am actually rather thankful they are holding a gala, my tickets are booked up and I am really excited about attending.

Just back home after a grand day out on the South Devon Railway. A good mix of locos, with 7820 'Dinmore Manor' the star attraction. But the first train of the day, an auto powered by 6430, was so authentic that I could imagine myself in the 1950s. Superb atmosphere on the line, and the Sea Trout in Staverton village with varied menu and Palmers beer was good to see in business again.

The Sea Trout’s always worth a visit and an easy stroll from the station.

Bought a ticket for this but for family/work reasons won't be attending now, so just enjoyed some of it on railcam in the background yesterday (and still had the fun of planning my moves even though they'll be hypothetical). One visitor, one new resident newly repaired, auto train, bit of double heading - it all looked ideal for an achievable gala right now. Well done for making it happen and I really hope it and the Polars have been a success

I was told that the Polar Express had been a great success. The gala trains looked well supported, so there should be a decent amount of cash in the till! Always room for more, though, so roll on the next gala. Sadly, the Manor has to go back next Wednesday.

I'm glad you all enjoyed the event, it must just be the day I travelled (New Years Day), it was a mixed bag for me honestly, Travelling on 7820's set felt like a proper gala yet 1369's set was rather... dead.

I did enjoy the variety (what I saw arriving late) and it was good to be back in the saddle, although maybe next time NOT hold a gala New Years Eve/Day? ;)

Although the title if the event did make me chuckle as all I could think of was any visitors with an 'M' in it. :D

    Like so:
    828, L92, 1420 - Mince Pies, Mackintosh & More.
    1501, L92, 6412 - Mince Pies, Matchbox & More.
    13268, 5526, 6412 - Mince Pies, Mogul & More.
    31806, 1369, 6430 - Mince Pies, Maunsell & More.
    43106, 3205, 5526 - Mince Pies, Mucky Duck & More.
    46521, 3205, 5542 - Mince Pies, Machyllneth & More.

    Even a diesel one:
    D5705, D7535, D7612 - Mince Pies, Metrovick & More.

Maybe South Devon's new gala event style like Llangollen's 'Along ..... Lines'? o_O

Not sure if this is the right place for it, but I've been hearing rumblings on social media concerning 3803 and 2873. Photos taken from the Railcam at Buckfastleigh this past Thurday showed 1369 shunting both locos around at Buckfastleigh, with SM comments suggesting both are being prepared for a move elsewhere. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

Well 3803 has was put up for sale for about 10 years ago (how actively they've been trying to offload it in the last 8-9 I don't know). Wouldn't be surprised if 2873 was to be sold off as its mostly carcass as bits migrated to 3803.

I know all GW locos look the same Matt, but even I can tell the difference between a Hall and a 28xx:).
