i have booked myself on The Welsh Mountaineer on Tuesday 19th July 2022, bit of info please, how many coaches are normally on this service, as i imagine with just one steam loco they will be limited as there is no premier dining facilities on this trip, what is the formation between 1st and 2nd class coaches please (do we get a diesel or is it pure steam),
    Thanks in advance
    Neil

Type Welsh Mountaineer into the search facility and see what comes up. 2016 was an epic year.

Only time diesel has been used to my knowledge was 2018 with the 8F due to the massive fire risk that summer with very little rain anywhere

been looking at all the photos and comments of previous runs, looks a good trip and quite a few photo opportunities for taking photos on the way with run rounds and water stops, i will be boarding at the 1st water stop at Frodsham as i cannot get a service train to other pick up stations from Yorkshire in time

And depending on the timings there is usually time to take a trip on the Ffestiniog railway down to Tan y Bwlch and back.

Last year that was only available for people on the guided holiday trip, as I had asked if that was available for the railtour passengers

Sunset is 1750 that day, so other than 20mins all the return journey is in darkness.

Would hardly call 2212 an early finish, especially on a Sunday evening for those who have work the next day and don't live local to Preston
