I think that should read 81st anniversary.

Have to agree that black with red plates looks splendid.

It looks magnificent, not just the paint job, there's a lot of hard graft gone into that machine to get it into that condition. All involved can be very proud of what they have done.:)

P.S. Why repaint it ? it's not going to look any better than it does now.

I don't know who got that offer; anyway not me. But it was fun enough that, instead of tipping us out at Carlisle, they took us through to Kingmoor where we could all wander around. Not bad for one's first ever railtour.

Wonderful images of a beautifully turned out 60007. Thanks to the folk who visited Crewe for sharing them on the forum.
Bravo to everyone involved with this overhaul. As others have said, she looks brand new. Hopefully she might make a few public runs in the black as it really suits her. I can't wait to see my favourite A4 back in action and hear that glorious chime whistle again.

Had the unveil been at York, we would have made the effort to go and see her, Crewe was too far from Newcastle for us.
So await seeing, or better still travelling behind her when the time comes.
As many have said those involved in the overhaul need a huge congratulation, as she looks like new, the overhaul updates have been a great way to keep in touch.
The black livery I would expect to look even better in the flesh, as many have again said, she looks incredible.
    Well done to all concerned.

Am I alone in hoping for the holy grail of an ECML railtour????

A4 one way, Deltic the other, LSL have access to all of the bits required in their ever expanding trainset!!!

I watched that special from the footbridge at the South end of Preston station. Very impressive.

I believe their were a few, in his book Bert mentioned they had tea bought to the footplate from the buffet car, he also mentioned about how they picked up water (with the scoop) just as some of the wife’s of those responsible for the purchase of No7 were walking through the tender at the same time…

4498 certainly looks smart not to mention different in "wartime" black. Which in turn highlights something the A1SLT are good at with their regular colour changes with '163 Tornado. Granted none of the UK based A4s carried either the two tone Grey or Apple Green, but...... Bearing in mind with John Cameron has a say Union of South Africa will stay BR green and Mallard at the NRM Blue, leaving the other two main liveries out in the cold.

Looking superb! Would it have had just NE on the tender, just asking. :)

Wasn't the front end design attributed to Bugatti?

When Duchess of Sutherland was turned out in black there were those who hated it as they said they couldn't get decent photos, I wonder if the same will happen here.

Beat me to it. Maybe it was Ettore's Doncaster-born cousin Eric?

Attributed is not quite the same as "inspired by" - and there were two main influences. The design development and line drawings can be found in RCTS 2A, which states the following:

Great work by everyone involved with No.7, in some ways it's a shame the loco can't stay black for a bit longer as the loco looks lovely in it.

No.7 has a special place in my heart, both as an A4 fan, but also because SNG was one of if not the) first locos I ever travelled behind, at the GCR (although I don't really recall it as I was only 2/3 at the time).

I was on the later trip in October of that year when, as I said elsewhere on NP, we shot out of Crewe like a bullet from a gun and ran to a pick up at Warrington in well inside even time for the 24 miles with a max of 95 between Winsford and Hartford. We averaged 92 over a five mile stretch with 11 on. And that was before Shap.
