I think it's either East Kent or East Somerset you're thinking of. I've seen the ads too.

The Epping Ongar Railway are disposing of the following items of rolling stock:

Taylor & Hubbard Diesel Crane 81026.
Whilst it was started once or twice after arrival, the crane has never been operational during its time on the EOR; it was subject to partial cosmetic restoration a few years ago for use in a photographic charter, but nothing else has been done with it since. There is a Mclaren engine fitted which we believe is unique to this design of crane. The load capacity is believed to be approx. 5 ton at minimum radius, 1 ton at maximum radius. The last date this was known to have passed any testing for operation is 2008, some time before it arrived with us. There is a desire to retain the match wagons for use as engineering vehicles, but should a potential buyer want these this may be negotiable.
    81026 (1).jpg 81026 (2).jpg

The second wagon is GWR Macaw 60ft Flatbed, Number unknown. It has been sparingly used to carry ballast and some rails during engineering works in the past, but has never been in the best of shapes. The decking would need full replacement, and some serious attention to the frames if to be regularly used. It is an unfitted and un-piped vehicle, which is why it has never been prioritised for restoration work. This may also make a substitute match wagon for the crane runner wagons above.

Interested parties are asked to contact Michael Drew or Tony Goulding for further information. If the vehicles go unsold, they will likely be broken for spares / scrap.

It can get up to 200mph on the straight but only lasts two hours before needing a total rebuild :)

Barclay No.8 at Mangapps has been put up for sale.

It will be interesting to see if the S. Tynedale coaches. At £150,000 for the set of three I think the asking price is ambitious!

That's rather more per carriage than the Llangollen Mark 1s went for, isn't it? (Maybe they should add the words "glamping / garden office" to the advert to ensure they meet that price ... :)

I did wonder whether I had misread the advert and accidentally added an extra zero, but I have checked and yes it really does say £150,000 so I suspect hat someone else has made the error.

I’m more concerned about what that says about the status of the railway.

I have to say that my first thought was to wonder why they'd be selling a set of 3 matching coaches like that. Unless they're too low capacity or the wrong clearance or soemthing?

They look to be fairly basic "home made" coaches and have been in use for years, so I doubt if they're out of gauge or don't carry enough passengers I thought that a year or two ago there was talk of them importing a set of more sophisticated coaches (converted tram trailer cars?) from one of the E. European countries, and I was under the impression that at least one had arrived, so I wonder if they are selling to replace them with some more from this source. Hopefully someone else will know more.

Yeah, they have a few ex-Romanian 2' 6" coaches that have been re-gauged, and are acquiring (I think they're being converted in Romania) 6 metre gauge ex-Baden Vienna tram cars (two are at Alston already)

They've just sold, not for the asking price but still for a fair chunk of money. Certainly for quite a lot more than I had to spend on one :D
