A friend said he had heard the spring for 5526 is due Thursday, so 257 may be in use the next few days. Best to check with the railway if you want 5526.

Unfortunately @A1X, this time, the joke's on you.
5526 is only there because Swanage have a lack of Southern locos, only reason 34072 is being steamed is because they have 5526 as the engine on standby.

The last couple of evenings I have been trying with very little success to get some late winter golden light on the last train back to Swanage.
But here are three images just to show the tank in action. The last service back to Swanage normally of course has lower loadings but I did feel the HX shot of just the staff member waiting was a very 1960's branch line image. IMG_8064.JPG IMG_8066.JPG IMG_8087.JPG

Went yesterday (27.2) joining the 11.10 from Norden.

Good to see that despite having a pass they still issued me with a ticket, so they know how many trips pass holders make. Also of course giving out a copy of the days timetable.

5562 didnt seem that lively but I have a soft spot for small prairies.

The day was sunny if a little windy, making me curse my last minute decision to take a lighter fleece.

After a visit to Chococo I went looking for the Model Shop, which being a Sunday was closed but is hidden behind a door off the High Street.

Usually I have company for a trip to Swanage but as I was on my own I was able to look around the shops and was most impressed by what was on offer from Galleries to Bobs Bits.

I was back in good time for the 1.30 train back to Norden, with a new crew 5562 was quite lively. This crew liked the loco - and of course small prairies worked in Dorset although not obviously to Swanage.

Some rags for Swanage loco were gratefully accepted and it was handy that there was plenty of hand sanitiser available on the platform because there was no soap in the Gents. Yes, I know its Dorset County Council

All in all a good day out.

Worth making the point that I have had some good times with visitors to Swanage including a Gig, Terrier and now 5562.

I think I will be enjoying my season ticket!

Glad you had a good day out - the sun was shining in Purbeck so a good day to capture a small Prairie on the Swanage Railway.

That may be the intention I do not know. but my Dad renewed his season ticket in August, and as he lives in Gilbert Road opposite the water column uses it quite a lot. He has only been issued with a ticket once during all those visits.

Not the most safest route for a walkway

    What’s wrong with the walkway?

What do you suggest as a replacement? Where does a better/safer route go?

There appear to be many walkways around stabling points and depots on the National Network similar to that, so why would this one be unsafe?

Having looked at photos I can now see that the walkway, fences and inspection pit are all part of the DMU stabling area. I assume there was no alternative / more subtle solution then? One that didn't make part of one of the most idyllic stations in preservation look a bit like... Network Rail.

Although the coal yard is not leased by the railway, whilst the land that the walkway is on is - although the boundary is not clearly marked.
