Just a good example of how Project Wareham has enhanced the Heritage Railway.......

Not sure if today was an extra driver taster day, as they have all sold out, IMG_8108c.jpg IMG_8116a.jpg or if they were operating for some other reason.
A lucky period of sun at Swanage on a mainly dull day and working hard across the common.

Well, at least Corfe Castle still has a coal yard!

In many respects possibly a strong contender for 'most authentic preserved station of the year'

Getting a few more drivers familiarization with the locomotive ready for driver experience turns.

The best place to look is the Swanage Moguls web site, but there hasn't been any recent updates, there is a contacts page!

Swanage Station toilets are the Railway's responsibility not Dorset Council.
Toilets are regularly cleaned by a local contractor which should mean the soap in the (automatic) machine should never run out.
It's possible the dispenser has got blocked, rather than run out, but that's no help to users.
I have contacted the Passenger Services Department to see what the problem might have been.

31806 is having its valve gear looked at as it was dismantled and being worked on when I went down Sunday. If you were looking for news on 31874, I think we already established nothing has been done on it for at least a year and a half. From what limited information I have gathered, not even any assessments to what work the boiler (the ex. 31806 one which I guessing is the one going on it) has been done. 31625 is still probably stored in the old clay shed at Fuzerbrook.

Don't bother contacting the Swanage Moguls FB page I tried and got no where.

Ever since the car park wardens at Purbeck park (Norden) were withdrawn some years ago there have been a number of issues with the cleaning contractor for the toilets at Purbeck Park (Norden) not least that it is only cleaned / checked IIRC once a day in the low season.

There was talk of transferring responsibility for cleaning and checking to the lessee of the refreshment kiosk at Purbeck Park (as a condition of the lease) but I do not know if that was actually enacted,

I think the leading light behind the Swanage Moguls was Nick Coram though he appears to have moved onto the Carriage Shed Appeal. He is a member of the Swanage Railway Trust Council of Management (according to their website) so perhaps an email to info@swanagerailwaytrust.org.uk may elicit an update.

The focus of fund raising for loco restoration by SR does appear to have switched from the Swanage Moguls to the T3.

To the SR as a whole which is more important: the carriage shed, the T3, the Moguls, the 4TC set, the heritage carriage set, the Water Tower? I note that Project Wareham is also listed on the appeals page.

Whilst one could argue that different appeals attract different donors it does rather call into question whether running so many appeals simultaneously is productive?

Fundraising for the majority of the projects listed (T3, 4TC, Heritage Coaches) is more generally undertaken by specific groups around the railway, a situation which is fairly typical across most railways.

I think SRT website is in need of a general update, as the Carriage Shed is fully funded and there’s no active fundraising ongoing for the Water Tower at the moment.

Isn't priority being given to the T3 refurbishment by 2023 to tie in with Waterloo station's 175th anniversary and 75 years since the T3 was last seen in steam! It could make visits to Waterloo and other railways.
This should give the SR some good publicity, a higher public profile and increase visitor numbers.

Fundraising for other locomotives will be done by owning societies.
Guess after the T3 the trust will have to decide if 31874 or T9 30120 take priority for the next overhaul and fundraising?
2 advantages of overhauling 31874 will be the chassis is complete and it could be used top and tail with 31806 and updated MK1 carriages on the Wareham service.

talking to someone who works down at Swanage on Discord he said 31874 would be back for end of Summer this year... I'm not sure how he got to this conclusion.

I would be interested to know just which carriages they propose putting in the shed and which ones they intend leaving outside?

I would imagine the heritage coaches and coaches undergoing restoration will be shedded but those in daily use will remain at the platform overnight.

This wont of course immediately resolve the somewhat tatty appearance of some of the stock.

What tatty appearance? Name me any preserved line in the UK that keeps it's daily running stock in a carriage shed?
If you look at @Gladiator 5076's excellent pictures #6342, I cannot see what is wrong with our coaching stock.
Edit: It should also be pointed out that the majority of Mainline stock was always kept outside in
both BR days and in post privatisation.

Andy, View the SR Webcams> The Roofs are literally peeling off of some of the stock. Notably the Dining Train. As in any democratic organisation we are allowed our views, and we would not be putting them up here if we did not care about the SR. Fact is,that Carriage Shed is badly needed. A previous poster says the monies are at hand so lets get it done sooner rather than later!@

the sheds construction would impede the railway being to normal operate so work is not going go ahead now

From looking at some of the diner images I took before Christmas, the only one that really looks in need of a bit of TLC is the third one in this image. Remember the set was stood in a siding for all of 2020 and nearly all 2021. The time of course when the railway was struggling like others from the impact of Covid.
The image was taken December 23 are you saying the rest have somehow deteriorated since then?. Or that the railway should have used money they probably did not have during Covid on a parked up set of coaches?
