Am I right in seeing on a rail advent mainline steam news that the K1 62005 will be operating the 2022 seasons Jacobite services, but I thought the K1 was having a major overhaul including needing new tyres besides its firebox mending and that it would be out of service for 2 years according to the N.E.L.P.G. facebook site since earlier in 2021 when it was withdrawn for a heavy overhaul.

Stop reading railadvent... it’s out for at least another 12 months. RA are just talking nonsense. Again.

Correct - no K1 on The Jacobite in 2022, as it is under overhaul.

Living down to its reputation, the latest Steam Beano reports that the K1 has been confirmed for the 2022 season!

The subject really isn't worth any further discussion, as SR have obviously used the same source of information as the previous RA report, without checking.

For the avoidance of any further doubt, the K1 is currently at Carnforth, undergoing overhaul and will not be participating in this season's Jacobite.

It is intended that this year's Jacobite loco allocation will be 45407, 44871 and 45212

Thank you for that information Ian, it puts a full stop to the rumour and speculation. :)

I wouldn't mind betting that 45407 and 44871 have spent more time at 65J than any other stanier 5.

I think your money is pretty safe there Mike because the Scottish Black Fives moved around within Scotland a fair bit. Looking at Shed Bash UK, I can't see one that did more than six or seven years at Fort William or Eastfield.

    I have 2 Questions:
    1. What’s the latest about the Fort William turntable?
    2. Are locos allowed to double head northbound north of Craigendoran again after last years tender first effort?

Well, the turntable goes around and around, and why should tender first running have anything to do with double heading?

Just hoping for no repeat of last year. Mind you I would like to see some trains running chimney first out of Mallaig as that was a nice variable.

Hopefully..................the access to the turntable will have been repaired (NR Problem) and the move will therefore be double headed fives to Fort William with a 37 on the back from Craigandoran.

Yes I am an active volunteer
First day of The Jacobite in a rainy Fort William, helping alleviate the recent fire risk.

Note the back of the tender on 45407 has been lined out
    More attractive tender first.
