Is the Crewe to Carlisle via Shap or the S&C? Also where is the other rail tour or has that not been specified?

You will need to go back and track the railtour that took place in 1968, from Crewe to Carlisle to find out the route, i have no idea. The other railtour is unspecified at the moment, but will run under the LSL banner.

Do you mean this one, the inaugural run on 1.4.67. Would have been nice had it been ready for 1st April

Impossible now to repeat the very bad shot at Walton New Junction from that day, the Kodak Brownie just wasn't up to it.
And 60007 is another one I first saw on the main line in preservation 55 years back !

I read Chime when I get it but it seems to be rather infrequent. The members area of the website I rarely visit but that's because there are so many sites that I visit hence a cursory glance at many which is why I missed the Crewe date - But then I had a domestic matter to attend to hence couldn't go anyway !

Any ideas what the date for the Members train is, I'm looking at getting my grandfather booked as he's member but he doesn't really understand the internet.

    Thanks

Before end of May is the date mentioned, once all mainline tests completed to satisfaction.

I was on the inaugural run in 1967 but have little memory of it. In particular I would not have remembered about it being non-stop, presumably with troughs still in use. That, and the maximum speed, are two features that sadly can't be repeated. But I hope to be on board.

What also won't be repeated are the running in turns on Crewe Preston stoppers and Crewe Carlisle parcels prior to the trip, the SVR visit will be the substitute. Not that I remember seeing any of those I was probably at school.

I can still recall 4498 running trains between Newcastle and Carlisle in June 1972 when it celebrated the finish of the Steam Ban which agreed to certain routes being made available for steam tours; perhaps an itinerary worth repeating ?

Also interesting to note on a recent TV programme that 4472 / 60103 now carries fleet number 98872 confirming it to be registered as a Class 8P; equivalent to 4498 ? Don't think so !!

That could be a candidate for a caption competition. Question; Where's the boiler, under here....? Answer: I've found the boiler lads. It's been hidden behind the sloped bit at the front, come and look!:p:confused:.

If that's the brush you used to paint it, it's not surprising there's no shine.

Does anyone have a photo taken inside Grosmont shed a good few years back of "Nigel the Shy Engine"? I remember seeing a photo in the Beano and found it highly amusing - It was a "Thomas" event - the cod's mouth was open, and someone had attached a face to the smokebox door!

    Richard.
