The Duchess didn't wait for the Castle and is currently in front (as it should be ;))

Drifting fairly quickly through Goostrey catching the stopper having not been looped at Chelford for a service that is pathed, but rarely runs, to overtake.

A rather good day out so far. Plenty of rare track, some noisy running to Macclesfield, and an interesting late afternoon run through the centre of Manchester. We got tucked in ahead of the other special, but likely means consecutive steam trains on the Trent Valley.

    Mancunian Duchess 26 March 2022

RTC proposed a mammoth day out (Euston – Manchester – Euston) to be hauled by the Stanier flagship No 6233 Duchess of Sutherland. This occasion could not be missed, and on a day with some sunshine the best vantage point would be the top floor of Manchester University’s Charles Street car park. Arriving in full sunshine, various units were seen at their best. However by the time the Duchess appeared in the distance at the end of Piccadilly’s Platform 13, the sun had gone. Then the distinctive Stanier hooter and the drain cocks blaring, she came towards us in the dull. Not many shots as she came past us but I have done some cropping as well. The train was a fine sight as it headed off round Manchester to be serviced at Castleton.

Unless anyone knows different I think it's safe to say this certainly was the first steam movement over the new line between Searchlight Lane and Yarnfield Junctions since completion in March 2016.
I was at the footbridge at the latter but pictures will be late as my card reader has failed this morning.

LSL have a train from North Wales to Bridgnorth on 27th April advertised to pass that way in both directions.
