I seem to recall it was another one of those locos whose contract was mysteriously cut short...?

Yes 88 indeed in Prussian blue, which is now black.

Again, people not reading the post properly!

The second blue loco based at Washford was Kilmersdon, which is out of ticket now.

I’ll admit I thought your original post was about the 7f pair, which is why I asked which was out of ticket, although was confused by the blue comment. Makes sense now (although in Kilmersdons case not much longer and will be green).

Does make you think, is the WSR the only railway to have had both surviving locos of a class resident but both have moved on? Genuine question as can think of it happening twice there.

Whistlestop Valley (Kirklees) has the ex-Fairbourne 2-4-2 Guest sisters. Do they count?

I don't think 53809 ever was a resident, wasn't it just there for a medium term hire for two years? The likes of 7828 and 9351 were under overhaul at the time.

Think people are not remembering what actually happened. 53809 has moved around a fair bit in preservation. 53808 hasn't moved on permanently, yet anyway.

Pretty sure that 53809 had a running agreement that was terminated early - could be wrong but seem to remember it was found to need work and that was the reason.

53808 - You must be the only person to think that - it’s left for good and the real question is will the railway stick to its obligation to overhaul it or fund an overhaul elsewhere.

I follow WSR news qutie keenly and know this was the case with the 44422 and 6695 agreements, but cannot recall anything in that nature for 53809.

Time will tell on 53808. Never say never.

I suspect the issue at hand for a full-line run is water capacity - especially in the steam heat season - rather than grunt.

Ah maybe not, was thinking it was April. Either way, water capacity - especially on an unfamiliar loco.

Do we score twice with the two surviving BL bagnals? We had both surviving ones and both have moved on.

53809 could have become a WSR-based loco but the negotiation style precluded coming to a mutually beneficial arrangement. Successful negotiations usually involve some give-and-take. Opinion varies as to whether that was intentional or just inadvertent. In either case there now seems very little chance of seeing double headed 7F passing my house again.

I renewed my acquaintance with 53809 recently when in Norfolk to help paint 32670.
