I'll harass Alan :). It's a very small team looking after the project. The magazine is excellent, and I'd thoroughly recommend joining to get it. The standard of engineering is truly excellent and the result will be quite unlike anything else.

Glad I'm not the only one that wants to see a Moel Tryfan replica! That said, Gowrie is going to be quite something when she's finished

Apparently, Gowrie shares more than a few components in common with Russell, so a very logical choice from that perspective. I believe a few tweaks are being incorporated, to mitigate the worst bad habits of the original. Most seem to involve the main live steam feed. I'm guessing the latest Blodge wrought iteration of the flexible pipe to the power bogie will be one such modification.

It depends on the purpose for which it's done of course, but if a new Moel Tryfan were to be built, would you tend towards the original design, faithfully reproduced, or a rather more useful 'breathed upon' Taliesin style recreation?

Thanks! No criticism of the groups achievements was intended - the progress is great to see and the attention to detail is great. I just think they should shout about their achievements a bit more!!

PS: Good luck with your own project - that workshop produces great work!

No criticism of the team. Just that, now it's so far past the 'smokebox dart and nameplate stage' it's reached a tipping point for donations. As Keith says, they've got something to crow about!

It also shares a fair amount with the War Department Hunslet 4-6-0s in both parts and design philosophy so it was a good follow on from 1215.

I'd love to see Moel Tryfan in any form! I've added it to my to do list :D

This one: https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnmightycat/36038406623 - these pictures of Moel Tryfan at Beddgelert are so evocative

As evocative as those taken in 1954 are sad. Having never seen a single image of the loco on the FfR (above Boston Lodge), does anyone know of a shot of MT on a Blaenau service?

I'm not aware of any. WHR coaches are seen on the FR but not the locos.

Yesterday I got more dismantling done on O+K 10956. Everything went very well and there were no nasty surprises. Both tanks are now off, along with the sand dome and the steam dome cover. Most importantly from a satisfaction point of view the smoke box door dogs, wonky handle and bolt welded into the handwheel/dart casting have all been removed and thrown into the scrap skip. There are more photos and videos on my Instagram, instagram.com/darnall_loco The next step will be cladding and lagging removal which will be in a couple of weeks as I'm away at Sandstone inbetween.

The firebox cladding is now off which hasn't yet revealed any especially terrible horrors.

Wonderfully the original order pages for the locomotive and the tender have been emailed to me by a very kind gentleman. Information and history is usually pretty thin on the ground for O+Ks that were exported to South America so I was especially pleased to see this.
