Grayrigg was a water stop. Tanker was parked on gravel right next to the train.

There was nine minutes between the pair on Shap, at Salterwath that was. The clag from 34046 hung around for a good five minutes and as it began to thin, the steam trail from 35018 could be seen approaching Greenholme. Mainline steam at its finest.

Not the best picture but it is all that was on offer at a gridlocked Citadel Station. Both trains were due to use platform 3, 15 minutes apart, but as it happened, Braunton arrived on platform 1 leaving 3 for BIL There were trains parked everywhere due to West Coast main line trains terminating/starting at Carlisle with buses used north of there. Obviously lots of passenger movements off/to those trains which was nothing compared to the footfall when two steam hauled charter trains arrived. Both B and C roads had Pendos stabled there with Northern/Scotrail services parked on top of each other in the bay platforms. I don't know how the signallers managed it all.

Looks and sounds like Braunton was doing the work.

Wasn’t sure if NR would allow a tanker under the wires so thanks for the update.

Indeed it does. If the crew is a bought in DB crew then my hunch is that they told the driver of the diesel "Don't you dare!"

A bit late to the party but images from Bay Horse and Greenholme; fortunately at Greenholme the clouds came at the right time - then followed the Big Brother from the West Coast stable ! 35018-01.jpg
