Wouldn’t disagree with that, smokebox numberplate look’s a bit wrong with only 2 digits in my opinion.

Dead right. Clearly their Royal consultant has no loco design knowledge!

Must admit I'd been expecting more of a Deep Purple , but rather than Smoke on the Water, if locos were songs I guess it would be this :

I love the ‘outraged from Tunbridge Wells’ splutterings on here. It’s a purple engine, it’s bold, it’s different, it will attract the crowds. My two children love it and they want to see it, so job done in my opinion!

Changing the subject from purple ish pigment .
Yesterday Welsh Guardsman ran LE to Kidd, collected stock for what I assume was a loaded test run to Bridgnorth and back before double heading the last service back to Bridgnorth .It’s first SVR service train ?

And elsewhere. I suspect some of the posters are even more purple than the loco. :) Anything that pricks the balloon of pomposity that surrounds some enthusiasts has to be a good thing IMO. It seems to be upsetting some republicans too. Perhaps they think the loco will be our next reigning monarch. :)

Not without precedent though. MR had locos with two digit smokebox plates and so did some former GRW locos.

It’s a publicity stunt, looks vile, and isn’t intended to appeal to this lukewarm non-republican, railway enthusiast.

I hope it works out well for them, but not so well that it encourages much repetition.

Or the Vale of Rheidol which had 1 digit smokebox number plates when owned by BR.

I have nothing against the livery change, if the publicity works then that's great for the Severn Valley, plus the loco is being back into green again later in the year anyway.

It has proven one thing, for sure. The vast majority of enthusiasts are very one eyed. It has achieved exactly what it set out to do and that is to get people talking about either positively or negatively. Its being picked up by not just local West mids news, it been picked up by Mock the week on the bbc. Create an audience and people will listen. Its not there for the enthusiast. Its there for the public, who pay for our hobby. If they turn up to see it, buy a ticket to ride behind it and buy a piece of merchandise about it, what is the issue? That person pays for a shovel full of coal ( based on the current prices) and before anyone says "thats an awful lot of tickets to put coal in it just for a paint job".

Tv is returning to green over the winter when it is due a VnP. The paint job from 7 years was rushed and everyone admitted it was not our best. The team lead by a very young but extremely talented painter will make a far better job and will at least get the cabside numbers straight.

The size of the numbers were correct but they were spaced to close together and were positioned too high on the cabside. Working from photos the numerals should near enough on the centre line of the cab sheet.

We'll all have forgotten about it in a couple of years anyway/ moved onto the next thing to get briefly mad online about. Should see some responses to the MHR temporarily using electricity for signalling and being Very Wrong. As a staunch anti-monarchist, pro-The Artist Formerly Known As Prince and all round Too Online kind of person, I'm already over it.

Oh I doubt that, City of Truro in black is still talked about and that's getting on for nearly forty years ago now!

Seriously? It just seems daft to me honestly...

Though saying that, how about the KWVR's Ivatt tank engine? That engine is in an authentic livery, yet I don’t think I've ever heard much complaints surrounding that.
