And doesn't get back till 10pm next week, 15 hours-ish from Penzance to Victoria. I hope passengers have got plans for overnight accommodation if necessary!

What a lot of tosh! There are plenty of railtours operating on a busy railway at very reasonable times. But, like with diesel assistance, they are in the tiny minority of workings and have to abide by the operational requirements to fit in.

The constant whinging and doom-mongering is getting a bit tedious. Maybe try to post something positive ...

Keeping things good is important. Glad the tour has had a good start.

I had two Sussex Beers in the York Tap see the Tap Room thread. I must order some of your IPA, on my return.

Edit you should see try and sell some of your ales to the York Tap.

By the way @Sidmouth, I'm not certain I would place the myriad of workings associated with GB XIV as a minority of workings. And the 0708 - Day 1 and 0720 - Day 9 start times do illustrate that sometimes a very early start is all that is possible. Not a whinge as you describe it but, as I described, it a sign of the times. And it's worth looking at the start times for the train to see precisely how difficult it has become. For example the short circular tour out of Stirling on Day 4 is only seven hours. But the ECS leaves Joppa at 0547. That's over four hours to travel a distance of about 50 miles as the crow flies.

It's remarkable that anyone tries to plan such marathons.

It looked like it was doing more than the timed 60 of the schedule when it came past us at Stamford.

No diesel on the back. It was being shadowed by a light engine 47 about 3 minutes behind it.

A fairly rare sight of a Merchant Navy at Waverley. It did rather well on its own.
