Oh my word. I have a feeling that's going to generate at least 100 pages to this thread.

Good Lord, what are they using?! Tyres or creosote coated sleepers?
On a more serious note are WCRC trying out different coal sources?

I don't know where to begin in responding to that. Let's just assume that it was a few seconds that the camera caught and it hadn't been like that all the way from Whalley.

But I'm happy to defer to people like @rule55 or @Steve for an expert comment.

Obviously it’s not uncommon as 6201 did the same for a few seconds a while back on the NB . FAA345D7-28CB-4E6E-B8C1-D0EA7776D252.png

They use Russian coal but I suspect they had got to the bottom of the tender and found some old rubbish. It started at the bottom of the Langho straight and finished before they got to the tunnel.

Are you sure? For most NP members, a big cloud of black smoke doesn't get the pulses racing to anything like the same degree as an argument about the size of the cabside numerals, a discussion about whether Tangmere should be renumbered 21C167 and painted in Malachite green or a debate on how much the diesel was shoving at the rear. :)
