Yes it did happen to me :( and I wouldn't wish it on anybody !
I can't remember the date but it was 6233 on a Crewe - Carlisle and back over Shap.
Northbound at Lambrigg, a Voyager passed in front of the Duchess covering the train from the tender back.
    Worse was to come.
At Woodacre on the southbound run as 6233 approached the footbridge a northbound Pendolino took us out completely.
It's the chance you take on busy routes so you just have to grin and bear it.
But is that a record ?

Oh dear. Please don't look for something that isn't there.

The only person making a comparison seems to be you. It really is disappointing when you jump up and down to protect a set up that from my perspective needs no protection. They do what they do.

Generator cars.....Yes a useful accessory. Look out for one on the next Belmond trip in the form of a Class 67. ;)

But in any case, 500 tonnes with a 7P on five miles of 1 in 75 without a banker at Tebay doesn't really add up does it?

As far as Tangmere is concerned, the interesting one will be the Pathfinder run on Sept 3. Maybe, just maybe.....

I know we're into thread drift. But I can offer this one too, 5000 at Parkside on the first of the L&M 150 Sunday trains. It happens from time to time.

I rather like that photo, at least you didn't get completely bowled like Shep. Just think about it, how lucky would you be if you went out with your camera today and managed to get a shot of a class 40 passing a Black 5 on the main line? :)

Well that's the thing, at the time the Class 40 got in the way of the intended shot, that's quite a small crop from a 35mm negative, but 40 odd years on I do really like it, as you say these days you'd think you were lucky to do it. :)

Refers on a recent debate on the Clan Line thread about the same issue. A very logical exchange if you had read that.

Thanks Henry. We had a look here on one of the earlier Belles and realised it had been opened up again but the strong east wind was a problem then - conditions ideal for this trip

I think we've all had a few like that, try Clapham Junction! I have had a few lucky escapes, the best was at Bethnal Green for 70013, there is an unbelievably frequent service off the Hackney Downs Line to block you and sure enough one turned up at the wrong moment, but didn't appear in shot to my surprise. When I turned round the driver wa out of the cab videoing on his phone!

That's good to see it is still on David, last time I was there it had telegraph poles and a lineside hut.

Thanks Steve. It's a regular spot for me but it is better at this time of the year before the lineside vegetation gets too high
