I'm not a member now so haven't had the pack. Anything controversial or is it all routine?

That’s a loaded question, depending on whether you believe the current clique running the railway is doing a good job or not…

The Society hasn't had a meeting of any kind for some time so it's not distributed any Minutes giving details of activity. Number of members left is uncertain. The Charity Commission website gives details of the income and expenditure for the past few years, showing a sharp drop in income but then grants received recently gave a big boost. No report of what they were for. The Company of which the Society is the majority shareholder has been in trouble twice for nonsubmission of Accounts and threatened with closure. The Company running the cafe has not submitted any Accounts since those for December 2017 but has used an accounting device to avoid closure.

Not meant to be loaded... It's fairly obvious if the business is routine AGM stuff or whether therec are any particular resolutions that might provoke comment....

Some questions that might be asked tomorrow: where has Alan George gone? what were the £13k grants for? why hasn't anybody done the cafe accounts since 2018? what piece of land was sold for £4k a couple of years ago? Will anybody ask them? I doubt it ....

There's a short piece in the NGRS magazine from a press release saying Alan George has gone for a contract overhaul and a bit about the AGM on the Facebook page.

There's a sort of report on the Facebook page which says that everything is perfect. Pity they couldn't manage to give the Charity Commission and the members the financial report for 2021.
Slightly concerned by the impression I get that the Society IS the Railway. It isn't.

Perhaps it’s just you that is unhappy?

I happened to be on Tripadvisor, and decided to have a look at the TVR. Over the last 12 months the lowest score has been a three with most four or five star reviews, except for one - C6D803E3-2C1C-4D7A-9B8C-6E314727F738.png
Now considering you’ve told us before you have the interests of the railway at heart, I’m struggling to see how this review supports that, rather sounds like sour grapes designed to put people off visiting.

I also took a look at the website and Facebook page and can see no evidence of them promoting the TVR as a steam railway. They do however promote it as a narrow gauge railway, which of course it is.

Yes, unfortunately it is only me that's unhappy.
I can't be looking at the same Facebook page as you are. If I click on the one available to me it describes the TVR as a narrow gauge steam railway. As you will know, Sgt Murphy has been in bits since 2013 and Alan George's certificate ran out a few years later. So there has been no steam there for about 5 years despite the website being adorned with pictures of AG. It can be understood that in the circumstances the management decided to concentrate less on "railway" and more on pixie line and teddy bears to provide an income. But some visitors still expect to see a heritage railway and ride behind a steam loco.
Since AG is now in bits maybe progress is being made to restore steam in time to get help from the Assembly with the coal problem.

Oh, you mean in the description of the Facebook page, I’ll concede it does say narrow gauge steam railway there.

However, it’s clear from the page content what the current situation is. The website doesn’t say anything of the sort though, just narrow gauge railway. I’m sure potential visitors would look at the website or indeed the content of the Facebook page, but come on, would anyone really base a visit on a single paragraph describing the Facebook page? I don’t think so.

I was amazed to read your review. I remember you saying you offered help which was rejected. Seeing this review made me think that is perhaps no surprise, it certainly doesn’t seem like something that someone who wanted to help would write, hence mentioning it here.

To your credit, you’ve replied promptly, that reply doesn’t seem to justify the review though in my opinion.

I'll try to explain the background to all this. It's the pain felt by a professionally qualified person when politics gives an organisation to a group of people who don't know what to do (the job you used to do) or how to do it. It's tough to watch them making a hash of it but you have to accept the situation (unless you are Trump...). But you are surely entitled to comment on important faults as they occur? Like not sending in the annual Accounts ...

Ladies and gentleman. I give you another example of ‘encouragement’ and ‘well wishes’. This is clearly meant as a deterrent for people potentially visiting.
What a sad and bitter display. Absolutely classless and a clear display of sour grapes as someone has already suggested.
True colours have been shown here. To point out some errors and observations.
Every ‘steam railway’ in the country has days/weeks where they don’t have steam engines. Not once have I ever seen websites, expected to be stripped of the words “steam”. Further to this point if you was to check our Facebook posts you would clearly see both steam engines are currently out of service.
I am not mentioning any names, but to those who this may apply you have shown your true colours and people see that you are sour that the railway to which you was a part of when it was destroyed is now successfully rebuilding , righting the wrongs you partially let happen.
As stated , no names have been mentioned!

To add to this. The trip advisor post has been removed by trip advisor and is investigating the person who posted it. This is slanderous and a feeble Attempt to put people off potentially visiting.
I encourage people to please “see the signs” of this individual who again has posted on various social sites and even the local papers to try and spread negativity about our railway.
All we want is to part ways with this individual as he/she has no current involvement with the railway nor has he/she for some time now. This individual is living in the past and is irrelevant to current operations.
Please, please , please just take a look at trip advisor for genuine legitimate reviews and you will see the truth.

Posted below is the bogus review left by said indevidual.I have tried to cover up the name to keep some dignity however this was posted into the public with the name visible.
Again please see this amazing “show of encouragement” and “well wishes”.

As I have said we have an ever amounting volume of evidence from various mediums from this individual to which I have started seeking legal advice based on grounds for slander and loss of earnings.

Just to add, your “so professional”! And yet you are admitting you are letting your emotions take over being a decent human being.

    Bravo, I’m gobsmacked….
    Anyways I think you’ve made your bed…..

There is little point in covering up the name considering I already posted it above.

I think the point has now been made now though so perhaps best to leave it at that. I posted it originally as I was surprised to read it and thought it was unnecessary, and interested in the reasoning behind it.

However, at the same time rather than dwelling on it, what would be nice would be to hear some news about what is happening at the railway currently including it’s rebuilding - ie focus on the positives.

    Hi Pete, Good morning.
As stated previously, I have tried to engage positively on forums and other social platforms. Which we do on Facebook regularly.
However I stopped on national preservation , this for obvious reasons. The fact of the matter is we are a small team rebuilding the railway. We are not by no means perfect but let’s remember the state the railway was in when we took over. Progress will from now on be posted via Facebook and our website.

If I’m honest the extra effort I have put in on here is not reciprocated in equal parts due to certain individuals.
As stated previously, I have as of this morning been advised to limit communications for legal reasons.
I will be contacting Nat preservation website owner for advice and potentially the removed content.

This forum must allow a level playing field and continues to let an irrelevant bully ‘try’ to paint a false narrative. This person has is irrelevant and is not affiliated to the railway in any way nor has he/she been for 8 years plus!

This forum is meant to be positive and encouraging, at times it is. But at times has not stepped in when it should have.

If anyone has direct questions please mail me and I will try to answer best I can. This will strictly be for progress updates and will not discuss past events.

    All beast,
    TVR Volounteer.

I'm not a lawyer but I think a genuine lawyer's response will be " don't waste my time unless you have very deep pockets and are prepared for them to get much shallower"!
