What do VT have that would fit in Portsmouth Harbour or is steam coming on at Hanwell imply something from elsewhere?

The description for the North Wales Coast Express in Sept also seems rather confused.
It's still referring to the Victorian Extravaganza, which was back in May, but also mentions Blaenau Ffestiniog as a destination.. Could you even take a Castle up the Conwy Valley?!

EDIT Has now been updated with 7029 Tyseley-Chester and Llandudno Jn-Tyseley with the 47 doing Chester-Bleanau-Llandudno Jn
Still very tempted, with a ride on the FfR also available.

The link is currently going through a settling process which usually takes about 72 hours. Please delete caches and don’t use any old links (go direct) as the old website will be bought up. There has been a lot of hard work and long hours put in to setting this up. Please bear with. Some niggles have gone unnoticed and this is being corrected.

The Portsmouth and Plymouth trips are planned to use class 50: 50050, this is not steam hauled.

Thanks for confirmation of what 50050 is down to work but I wonder if you or someone could justify the steep booking fees that have been introduced, I was looking at booking a number of them and for 2 people the booking fees are £9.48, we are living in 2022 and it's not booking for a concert. I just find it staggering, is there a way to avoid this fee, phone booking?

Just wondering...and I have e mailed VT but they avoided answering the question about the booking fees.

I understand (though don't like) booking fees when booking is through an agency, but if it's VT's own site the fee is just part of the price, so showing it separately just makes the originally quoted price look slightly better, as with "cover charge" in a restaurant.

IIRC (I once sat through a conference on it), if booking fees are per ticket (rather than per transaction) that they must be included in the advertised ticket price at the first and key points a customer sees it (ie. Web page/poster).

If using a 'from' price, you must be able to buy the ticket at this price from the location it is pushing you too. Ie. Even if you can buy without an per ticket booking in person/on phone, if the website link it pushing you to an online booking page then that price must be on offer at this location.

It seems a strange idea to me to offer you dates to choose as the front screen option. Took me a while to find all tours (last choice on drop down) which is the way on any railtour company site I would look to decide what to spend my money on.
But I guess if it works for you then it is OK.

Times for 7029's trip to Cardiff next Saturday are now on RTT. Usual reversal at Maindee on the way, so the arrival into Cardiff will be with the diesel leading. I'm booked on this one.

The webpage still talks about a diesel pilot from Oxford but the return times show it's non-stop from Milton Junction to Banbury, straight through Oxford on the centre road, so it's anyone guess what will happen!

For my events I absorb eventbrite costs as part of the ticket rather than including them as an add on . It always irks me when you get an extra cost on checkout

If you go to your computer's management function and look to delete all categories such as history, caches will probably be in the list there.

The web page still talks of a diesel 'pilot' from Oxford on the return. I haven't worked out why this is needed and I wonder if they mean at the rear.

Driver hours. When coming up with the tour we thought we could get to Cardiff and back as far as Oxford in 12 hours. We’d rather be realistic and advertise what we know we can deliver at the first stage rather than offer more than what could be delivered. We have a second steam driver for this trip now which means we can run the trip steam hauled throughout - the website just needs updating.

I see that the Shakespear Express now only does one round trip, not two so no Stratford - Birmingham option which was a good one for those of us from far off parts

    https://fareharbor.com/embeds/book/...-express-birmingham-to-stratford/&flow=751917

It's there, but it's not as easy to find as Birmingham to Stratford. It's not the most intuitive of websites to try and find your way around. The actual booking page is simpler.
