No I do not currently volunteer
An Aberdare would be a much bigger project though because there's so much less in the way of standard parts.

Can we return this thread to its proper topic and continue discussion of other new-builds elsewhere?

Well the big standard bit is the boiler - and certainly the most expensive, efficiently making some good likely boilers or plates for them would be a great help either for new builds or for maintenance and repair to keep things steaming.

The Swindon No 4 boiler would be a very good candidate, it went on a lot of locomotives good or excellent in themselves and very suitable for present preserved lines.
    To mention:
    the Cities and the Aberdares,

all the eight coupled GWR tank engines,

the Prairies and the"big Prairie" tanks.

With and without superheaters and at 250 psi as well as 225. Finally with modifications it became the basis of the boiler for the BR standard class 3s, tender & tank

The Cities and eight coupled tanks were fitted with the number 4 boiler. The Aberdares were also recoiled with the number 4

My apologies the Number 4 boiler indeed. I have corrected what I first posted.
