There was another 20 there as well wasn’t there for spares, I remember one February half term showing up at Bodmin General and receiving directions from someone there whilst my Dad’s mate complained about how he’d come for a nice week in Cornwall for golf and here he was on some Industrial Estate!
It was a bit of a Triumph photting 50042 :)

Fitzgerald Lighting at Bodmin were the customer; they made domestic fluorescent fittings.
    Went into liquidation in 2019.

The Bodmin & Wenford Website Locomotive Roster reports 4612 in service this Sunday. This engine has just had an unplanned retube after failing in March and completion gives the railway two steam locos for the summer, the other being Bagnall 2766 that has kept the show on the road for most of the year I'm told that the overhaul of 5552 is unlikely to be completed until the end of this season at the earliest.

Comments on FB seem to suggest it's a mechanical issue rather anything more sinister.

Hope so, but you would think that with two lines and other traction, they would have a Plan B.

Not exactly endowed with steam motive power this year from what I've seen/ been told but the language made it sound like a medical emergency. I see its been removed from FB and Twitter now.

I've been told that 4612 was failed with a suspected leak in the firebox. Their austerity tank 2766 is stopped for a boiler washout but services were continued using the 08 as no driver for the class 50 was available. In the light of this information the post on social media does appear rather unnecessary and indeed, unhelpful but perhaps it has more to do with the present management at the railway.

4612 now back in working order but trains are being assisted by the 08 following lineside fires. There has been very little rain in Cornwall for months and for various reasons the winter lineside flailing programme wasn't completed. I wonder if any other heritage railways are having problems with lineside fires?

I’m staying near Bodmin (not managed a trip on the railway though) and that surprises me - the herbiage is very lush.

Did not the SVR and WSR have fires during their respective galas? NYMR has been diesel on internal services since a fire I believe, and read somewhere all diesel at least one day.
The temp no fires or BBQ's signs on the road have been out in Purbeck for some months, so I think it is an ongoing issue in a lot of places.

The NYMR has been using diesel assistance on trains (no occurrence of all diesel) but that ceased last week after a reasonable amount of rain and the green foliage coming through. Presently onn what is known as Firecon 1, which is train crews to take care and no attempts to make up for any lost time and fire patrols to follow trains through Newtondale.

Ex Devonport Dockyard engine No 19 has been put on sale in Traction Advertiser. This was the engine that operated the first train to Bodmin Parkway on the heritage railway in 1989. Another link with the early days will be lost.

It was also resident at Bodmin in Great Western Society days, I worked on it back in the early 1970s.

That’s a shame but not unique, plenty of railways have said bye bye to their original engine over the years for various reasons. Moving elsewhere could actually benefit it as being of limited use means less incentive to restore it. At least this way it could potentially return for special events in working order.

Would be nice if it ended up at the Plym Valley being a local engine. Sounds like its better for the engine having a working future to move on.

Indeed, I think a look at the Bluebell thread and their reason for disposing of something they have says a lot.
