A better question is to and from Whitby I think.
Based on my webcam watching the Whitby trains have been well loaded compared to the purely internal trains this year.
I am sure the NYMR has a good handle on it, but may not want to share at the moment.

I've got to be honest, driving around Leeds I've noticed absolutely no difference during the train strikes. That's with Arriva on strike too...

Yes I think the days when rail strikes could have a profound impact on the general public are now well and truly over. What with COVID etc people have now learnt to become agile, whether working from home or what ever.

Absolutely, though Whitby is a destination in it's own right and I'm going to go out on a limb and suppose most visitors arrive by car. Actually, after I posted I wondered whether the line's "dining" and "non-dining" markets are noticeably different.

It is my understanding that the NYMR's Whitby traffic is to the coast rather than from it. Persuading people to travel from Whitby is a challenge that is yet to be overcome. I'm not sure what the question/statement about dining and non-dining services is alluding to!

The NYM's dining services get much mention on this thread. I was merely wondering whether the demographic was the same as for general services. The tone of many posts seems to suggest Whitby isn't quite all it perhaps ought to be.

Maybe the local council might look at "twinning" it with Blaenau Ffestiniog?

Maybe WSR posts have migrated to the NYMR thread. ;)

Yes, but the normal discussion is having a summer holiday a couple of hours down the A35 ;)

Saw a class 33 hauled freight on the webcam @ Blue Anchor & Minehead earlier today which was a pleasant surprise.

During the last few years' squabbles, one of many criticisms was that the WSHRT was leaving its coaches to rot. I wonder whether a new person in charge of that will do any better.

Since the formal review must’ve decided to continue the project one’d hope the trust will also, in support of the new project-manager, be developing a long-term strategy to raise enough external funding and put in place whatever else is required to see it through. And a shed.

I can't see the point; why not let the Council go on maintaining it?
