Good to see this loco return. Those tyres must be living on borrowed time, though.

Although they have an excellent profile there are plans to deal with this.

Odd that the big version doesn't have outside valve gear. Being an industrial, you'd think having as much ready accessible as on smaller sibling the 2ft (+/-) gauge "Tattoo" would be desirable.

There was actually also a standard gauge (equally industrial) version of the basic Hughes/Falcon design immortalised by ex-Corris No.3 (and looking as if it had been on steroids!). Unfortunately, though at least one survived until 1960, history wasn't as kind as to the KS.

A new one on me, so ta for that. The one I had in mind was Elephant, an 0-4-0ST (actually late enough to have been built by Brush), No.277 built in 1898. This one lived at Kent Portland Cement Works (whence came MW 0-6-0 Arthur, now running on the Middleton Rly as Matthew Murray )

we had the tyres turned at Crewe ETD on the locos way either to her hire period at the museum of science and industry or on her way to take up permanent residence at Foxfield I can never remember which, we do have pictures of her somewhere on the ground lathe.

Jack has done a wonderful job and I cannot wait to see and have a ride again! I was allowed to drive her on her last day in ticket under supervision by Avonside1563 happy happy days and ones I was resigned never to relive! What a difference a couple of years and the right owner make

I was in my late teens when we sold her and now I get the chance to show my kids what my childhood was like because just telling them that grandpa and his friends used to own a steam train just doesn’t compute to them at the moment

    Bagnall 2746 The Duke

The 8F team have been largely occupied with repairs to their workshop van body, which is being re-wired and repainted; it will also receive a new felt roof covering. To show you the way the world is going, I had to visit four trade retailers to get the full kit of electrical equipment, and I was assured at one hardware store that roofing felt is in short supply and that I would be very lucky to get any, fortunately Marcovicz had everything we required.

Preparations are in hand to lift The Duke's chimney into place next Saturday, the chimney itself has been drilled and tapped for the studs to hold it down, fortunately I got a good stock of proper Whitworth studs from Twiggs at Matlock, including a spare set for when the chimney has to come off at the next overhaul, so metrication has been avoided. Mick and John are preparing the staging necessary to adjust and work on the chimney in situ, the chimney will first be centered with piano wire, then the chimney needs to be winched away so that the smokebox can be drilled to suit.

Meanwhile Tony has put a further coat of paint on the underneath of the saddle tank. Dan is making a superb job of preparing and painting the locomotive itself, smoothing down involves sanding off most of the black primer coat we applied for winter protection, but there was plenty of red oxide under that and the red undercoat looks beautifully smooth. The gloss will be applied after the plumbing is complete.

Peckett 'Kilmersdon' is almost complete following its overhaul, and will return to service as Percy on the MHR.

Kerr Stuart 4388 has now been accepted into traffic at Foxfield, and hauled it's first revenue earning train for many years last Sunday - it was out again today and all being well should be hauling the trains next Sunday.

For anyone interested, ex-Llangollen Hudswell Clarke Jennifer has had a repaint into a really nice shade of green and is now in service on the Aln Valley Railway. Makes it their third Leeds-built industrial after Richboro and Lambton no.60.

Also, for anyone interested , the small Bagnall loco , ex Port of Par Judy is finally being reassembled at Bodmin after a long pause due to the lockdown, lack of personnel and workshop reorganisation. The intention is to have it ready for carriage heating duties at Xmas.

Not an update, as such, but these may be of interest; taken at 'Blackburn's Yard', Catteshall Lane, Godalming c. 1972.
The Peckett is now called 'Teddy'. The Hawthorne Leslie is 'Commander B' at Hollycombe. What happened to 'Roker'? IIRC there was another Doxford CT there as well.
There was also a motley collection of ex-Longmoor kit, including 'Lord Fisher' for a while.

For those who missed this, Hudswell Clarke 1857 has moved from the West Somerset Railway to the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway to become a member of the resident home fleet, fresh from overhaul.
The loco will haul its first ever passenger trains at their gala on 9 - 11 September.

1857 (left) is seen with Hunslet 3839 'Wimblebury', currently on loan from the Foxfield Railway, on the P&BR recently. Photo credits to Alex Gourlay of the P&BR Steam dept.

I guess this would be a sister loco to the BLS's Southwick?

Yes- Hendon (Tanfield) & Millfield (Bressingham) also survivors- all four of the RSH locos.

Both Roker of 1940 and older sister (HL) Pallion of 1902 went to JCB at Rocester in 1974 as property of dealer Mark Bamford. Roker was bought for Foxfield later that year, chosen as it had a steam brake and was slightly less 'shot' (and did subsequently steam for a few years at Foxfield). Pallion was unfortunately scrapped.

Bamford had a third steam loco , AB 2352 which was plinthed in a playground at Rocester and I believe is now at the Tanat Valley Light Railway
