Thanks for that - more good news, it seems to have been out of traffic forever!

Great news, will be so good to see 80135 running again in the near future - interesting that she'll be registered for Whitby working, I thought generally tender locos were preferred for Whitby running due to Water requirements. But could open the Whitby service to being more of a shuttle as it tends to be at galas?
I also notice 80136 gets a mention - not sure how long is left on her boiler ticket, but I was under the impression she was only at the Moors on a 10 year agreement. Could be possible that her agreement will be extended now?

According to various sources online her '10 years' of boiler ticket (yes, I know there's technically no such thing) is 2016 - 2026. I think some work has already begun on 135 but not much. 4 years should be feasible?

Great to hear of the legacy.

Would it be ok to assume that 80135 will be fitted with a copper firebox after the short life of the steel version?

I have always thought that a lot was done on the bottom end of 80135 before it was stored in the deviation shed, perhaps I am mistaken. Clearly after sitting idle for a considerable time the axle boxes, pads etc will be subject to re-examination.

With 80135 being Whitby capable it would need to operate Grosmont - Whitby -Pickering between receiving water. Is the water at Pickering subject to reverse osmosis treatment?

Here's hoping for another legacy to bring another stalwart of the past, Lambton No. 5, back to life!

Reported to be under overhaul. Facebook suggests it started back at the beginning of 2020.

It will indeed be good to see 80135 back in service. It has been far too long in waiting. A day on this loco is generally referred to as a day in the office because it is almost always an easy one. These locos are ideal for NYMR services. It will be interesting to see it in use to Whitby as water will be a cause for concern. A Whitby bound service can take water at Grosmont but the loco can't then have its tanks replenished until it gets back to Pickering. It should do it but there will be very little in reserve for any out of course delays. It might see Goathland column coming into regular use but it is not in the right place for 7 coach trains, which would involve stopping rather close to the catch points with the last coach.
80136 had its first year of NYMR service in 2016. Not certain when its boiler 'ticket' started. It has been NYMR practice in recent years to do intermediate overhauls at less than 10 years but this loco is privately owned so I don't know what the future holds for it.

I remember these locos well from their LTSR days, and if both end up in service together it will encourage a visit from me, not that I particularly need an excuse!

With the good news that at long last 80135's boiler is to be rebuilt and that it is intended to be Whitby compliant I thought this picture might be of interest. The loco worked to Whitby on several occasions in 2003 before the current electronics became mandatory. Here it is seen with a shuttle from Glaisdale during the Whit Bank Holiday weekend that year. The dummy smokebox numberplate recalls a loco that went new to Whitby in the mid '50s and whose boiler is now on 80135 (or it will be again when the overhaul is completed). 03-5-26 9 80116 Whitby copy.jpg

Would be a lot easier/cheaper for you to take a trip North, than for the NYMR to send 86 odd tons of loco South just for your benefit!

Bloody hell Peter, I know 80135 has been in a pseudo GW livery, but when has Whitby and Palm trees been part of ‘The English Riviera’? ;)

There are other reasons, my car doesn't like the cobbled bits of the M62 beyond Junction 22 heading east.
