I did this at one gala. Parked at Grosmont in the woodland carpark and when I got to Goathland carried on to Moorgates to photograph Green Arrow.

That's on my To Do list this year, hopefully some good photo locations.

Last year they ran later as there was another round trip from Pickering in the evening, apart from that the timetable looks almost identical to last year.
Notice the website says loco allocations will be available on the day - I understand they are subject to change etc but surely they would be planned in advance... therefore could be released a few days before to be able to plan ourselves?

Assuming that the Pullman no longer carries non-dining passengers, there's is a 3 hour gap in full line passenger services in each direction on Thursday - not good!

Agreed, the Thursday Timetable looks very sparse and guest loco 85 is not even rostered

I quite agree. I always thought the Thursday was a guest loco day. I would have thought the 0-6-2Ts could have been busy on the Thursday doing Grosmont - Goathland shuttles or whatever. 73156 only seems to do an evening diner that day, I can never understand the secrecy that the NYMR use about loco allocations.

Can't understand the strange loco allocations like why have the Std 5 double heading with No.7?

Probably an example of too many locos to try and roster

I am wondering if 73156 is on the rear to work the next train straight back, which is quite a regular for the first service up the bank. All will become clear I am sure.

Unless common sense prevails, 73156 is going on the front of Greeley.

How ridiculous a pairing, might as well have had 85 on the front [IMG]

Assume 9F/A4 double header on 1531 ex Pickering as well then.

I've always found the Moors loco rosters a lottery. Whilst the three A4s event always rightly goes down in memory as a brilliant gala (one of the best ever anywhere in my mind!) there was at least one day where the star locos were all on the wrong diagrams. When I went to another gala about five years later the rostering seemed equally as haphazard compared to the published diagrams but it was also an excellent gala and I had a great weekend.

In truth I'd never trust NYMR loco rosters as far as I could throw the pieces of paper they are written on. In saying that it wouldn't surprise me if every enthusiast that goes to the event is has a great time because it really is a fantastic line!

One of my NYMR unwritten rules is ‘Never expect to do what you expect to do.’ The only certainty for footplate crew is the sign on time because you are in control of that. To a large extent, anyway; problems on the roads can sometimes affect even that.
With regard to the forthcoming gala, I do think they are trying to squeeze a quart into a pint pot with 13 locos planned to be in traffic on the Friday. IMHO it would be better to cut back on the use of the home fleet and use different locos on different days.

I have just tried to work out the costs of using 73156 versus the income from a full train with everyone paying the £45.
I suspect the costs I have calculated fall short of the reality .
Economically it would make sense to do as you suggest and use the visitors far more than the home fleet.
73156 is only doing one round trip on some gala days.

Same for 85 - its not out Thursday, Friday it spends the day between Grosmont and Goathland on Freight Shuttles. Saturday and Sunday it does a single round trip that is double headed.
