Did you arrange with the crew for the exhaust to cover those crappy Pullman coaches Ian? ;) :)

Well the early birds certainly caught the worm; there were some excellent videos and photographs taken in the morning sunshine - much enjoyed and thanks to all for posting. Whilst Oswald is by nature an early bird domestic arrangements were such that I had to settle for an evening outing. The times for the return did not appear on RTT until two hours before the train was due to leave York.

Oswald and Mrs W, "the dynamic duo" - perhaps less Batman and Robin and more Dick Dastardly and Muttley - headed over to Gargrave. Although the afternoon had been sunny, by the time the train was due (18.50) the sun would be sinking behind the hills (or have sunk). A previous visit to the station had suggested that an over bridge to the west might make a suitable vantage point - so off we went.

We arrived to find one other occupant who was also a first timer at the location. It was 10C but felt cooler in the gentle but chilly northerly breeze. As the minutes ticked by looking to the east the sun retreated from the track, to the west it hung on low in the sky. In the distance Scots Guardsman appeared from around the curve, the breeze was sweeping the sound away, under the distant road bridge, through the station and some noise now as 46115 rushed towards us and up the 1/165r. Too quickly she was under the bridge and away to the west, then the coaches and finally the 47, a hearty roar from its exhaust. 54mph and 3L.

(No going away shot, heading into the setting sun, as there was an issue with the iphone)

Hmm! Ignoring the steam, similar amounts of smoke from the two locos.
