It was an "FP Thing" in the BR Blue era - I can remember them starting to appear with them (didn't like it much though). Well, it was a bit more subtle than Stratford's Union Jacks on the side of 47s!!

York did something of their own too, IIRC.

Didn’t like the Union Jacks but, as a birdwatcher, I did like the "Cockney Sparrow" symbol:

Agree completely, one of the offerings by Martin Walker and his support crew, upon sale, was to advise and point out the loco's shortcomings, that was sadly never taken up. You do wonder what was done in the p/u overhaul, but mention is now made of leaking liners, which means a full tear down. The DPS now also have the support crew, who broke away to overhaul 55002 at the NRM, another leaking liner example.

If you add the leaking liner, to crankshaft shells u/s, you might be asking questions at LSL, why it has not been identified before now, a simple call to Martin might have helped.

Much prefer the Blue, if only for the fact its the way i remember them, never saw them in green.

I only really liked the blue in combination with the "domino" panels, the plated-over yellow panel made the nose look too bulbous. I *just* remember them with route indicators still fitted - the only green one I saw in service was of course 55 002...

Saw a post on Facebook saying that the Deltic Deviation tour in October has been caped due to more work being needed on '22.

When D9000 failed from memory , one engine was working , one had suffered a failure of a quill shaft . Martin Walker at the time posted an image of the sheared piece in the engine

Liners seem to be a challenge . Are they chromed and no one has rechromed a set in preservation ?

Found an update that is from Facebook but appeared on preservation
Update on Progress with D9000 “Royal Scots Grey”
D9000 has been in the ownership of the Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust for some time now. As many will be aware the purpose of the Trust is to protect railway assets of all types, for current and future generations to enjoy. We take our work very seriously, so D9000 has been subjected to many detailed inspections with work packages created that are designed to get the Locomotive into the best possible condition.
So far Royal Scots Grey has received fully reconditioned bogies, its fuel tanks have been removed, overhauled and refitted and body work repairs have been carried out. Aside from these works, and by far the biggest challenge to overcome, was to overhaul two Power Units for the Locomotive.
The Power Units being rebuilt are units 672 and 618. Unit 672 was reported to have suffered a quill shaft fracture, however on inspection two broken shafts were discovered, with other damage to the engine also evident. This was an unexpected setback to the programme. Rather than just blindly repair what we could see, we have agreed with our overhaul partner to carry out significant further works to give this unit the best chance of good service. The consequence of this decision has been a delay in completion of engine 672, which has then delayed reconstruction of engine 618. Engine 618 is receiving a complete strip down and rebuild to original specifications which has been a monumental undertaking, and the first such rebuild in many years. This unit was in extremely poor condition having suffered from leaking liner seals and heavily contaminated oil for some time. Running the engine with this problem had resulted in severe wear to the engine and ancillary components such as oil pumps. We are making a major investment in the complete rebuild of this unit measured in many hundreds of thousands of pounds.
The decisions around engine works are difficult and must be made with the preservation of as many power units as possible in mind. They are a diminishing commodity and we do not wish to rush a rebuild, only for the engine to fail in service.
The above challenges mean that engine 672 will be delivered to Crewe for installation into D9000 in early November 2021. It will be installed into the Locomotive and tested in conjunction with a fully overhauled cooler group. Unfortunately, engine 618 will not be completed until early 2022. After both engines are installed, D9000 will receive its scheduled maintenance and undergo testing. It will also be repainted and be readied for service.
Clearly, this means that D9000 cannot be made available for the “Deltic Delight” tour on Wednesday 1 December 2021.
Whilst we know that those booked on this tour will be as disappointed as we are that the Locomotive will not be ready in time, we hope that everyone understands that working with heritage equipment can be frustrating when things don’t go to plan. Our primary goal must always be to protect the assets in our care, rather than hope for the best. The decisions we are making for D9000 are for its long term future, so that it can be enjoyed by many for years to come. We ask that those following D9000 bear with us.
A new date for the charter of Friday 26 August 2022 has been bid to Network Rail, and the bookings team will make contact with those that have booked in the coming days to confirm transfer to the new date

The company that took care of the Royal Navy contract to rechrome liners for vessels went into receivership a couple of years ago, as the RN contract finished. They were based very close to where i live, maybe the expertise still exists, however, a problem that can only get worse....

Wonder if the engine lift for 55022, is going to co-incide with the twin lift to install the pair for 55015.

Make a lot of sense to do so, the 2 for Tulyar, are almost ready, as is 1 bogie.
