You're not paying £37 to ride behind 76017. You're paying it to ride behind up to 6 locos, 3 of which are visitors to the line (I'm including the Hall)

I think that's good value. By comparison the Mid Hants are charging £30 for a gala with no visitors.

Genuine question, have you ever heard of a TV programme called "the news"?

not entirely sure what your point is...

what an intolerant forum this is, completely dissing anyone's POV that doesn't go along with their own!

    anyway I've done Camelot loads of times, not interested in anything GWR sorry (I'm mainly a modern traction fan but love the BR Standards), and don't need to go behind another standard 5;

I'd probably prefer to do 76017 on the MHR on a regular weekend, not been there for a few years and really enjoyed the last time

Intolerance is a feature of Nat Pres

We will be going primarily for 6989 but will go anyway as any steam is good steam to us even though it’s quite a journey by train because I try not to drive longish distances now for a number of reasons

Well why moan about paying to do 76017 on another railway?
FFS if you don’t like it you have two choices and they are take it, or leave it, don’t come on here and whine about it.
    Seriously, grow up pal.

Intolerant? Your posts smack of ingratitude so here’s a few things to consider:

Price point - they are not going to try and run things at a loss are they?

What’s on offer - six fricken locos in steam. In terms of steam preservation, the UK is on another planet compared to the rest of the world. I get to see one loco in my neck of the woods - just one. The same loco, perhaps once every month or two. If I wanted to see another loco, I would have to drive 2 hours and I would see one other loco - just one. Two locos in steam together at the same location? Forget it. You get 6 locos if you want at half the price I get for 1 loco….oh, and I would probably get a diesel thrown in behind the loco for free….and I’m grateful for all of it!

You don’t like what’s on offer, that’s fine. Don’t go, don’t moan, don’t stick two fingers up at hard working volunteers in trying times. Instead, go somewhere you will be happy by driving half the distance, pay half the price and have umpteen more steam choices than some of us have. If you do find an experience that makes you happy, then by all means post it up and I think you will get a more tolerant reception….I just hope that Torquay hotel view lives up to expectations…;)

    Ahhh ya big lug! Xoxo

We (railway enthusiasts) are very lucky. It’s all a luxury isn’t it? Brought to us by hardworking people and we get to enjoy it. We can enjoy it for free if we so want - mostly that’s what I do (for the price of an internet connection!). We can support by patronising events, we can get our hands dirty by volunteering, and we can put our hands into our pockets by donating - those are positives. What we shouldn’t do is criticise or be ungrateful towards what others put on offer. “Entitled” is the new and ugly word….

My "point" is you seem to be entirely oblivious to the fact the economic situation of 2019 and 2022 are absolute poles apart.

Fine. As far as I'm aware you're not an airline, you don't need to announce when you are and aren't going somewhere. If you don't want to go, just don't go. Attacking the railway because you don't want to go to the event they're holding is just pathetic.

On the home page https://www.national-preservation.com/ the above recent posting to this thread shows against the Galas and Events section. But if I go to https://www.national-preservation.com/forums/galas-and-events.22/ this thread doesn't show at all. This seems to be because the thread was started by someone whom I am Ignoring even though plenty of others have contributed. That doesn't seem quite right to me. As an ordinary mortal I can't post in the Forum Information section so I mentioning it here.

Unfortunately that’s how the ignore function works, there are no options to differentiate between a normal post and one starting a thread so it’s either on as it currently is or turned off. It was written that way by the software developers. The ignore function is really only meant to be a last resort.

For those interested, these are the provisional off shed times from Sheffield Park - I haven't seen a timetable, so this just for crew diagrams. Generally, train departures would typically be anywhere from 30 to 75 minutes after off shed times, depending on train heating, shunting etc; I'm sure all will become clear when the timetable is published.

    Friday
08:30 -- 73156 (three trips to EG during the day)
    09:15 -- 73082 (three trips)
    10:00 -- 76017 (two trips)
    10:45 -- 6989 (two trips)

    Saturday
    08:00 -- 6989 (Three trips)
08:45 -- 76017 (Three trips, with a layover mid day for cab access at Sheffield Park after the first trip)
09:20 -- 30541 (Demo goods at Horsted Keynes)
    09:55 -- 73082 (Two trips)
    10:05 -- 73156 (Three trips)
    10:15 -- 80151 (Two trips)

    Sunday
    08:00 -- 6989 (Three trips)
    08:45 -- 80151 (Three trips)
09:20 -- 76017 (Demo goods at HK a.m., then two trips to EG p.m.)
    09:55 -- 73156 (Three trips)
    10:05 -- 30541 (Two trips)
    10:15 -- 73082 (Two trips)

So will 6989 actually run this time around? Or are we about to welcome the other Giant of Steam (checks notes) the O1 into the fray?

I hate to agree with you A1X but 6989 has not been very reliable and, unless a miracle happens, I really doubt it will appear.

    5 engines is plenty.

Someone uploaded on Facebook earlier of 72 in the workshop with the Halls tender no longer where it was behind it. So I am hoping that this is a good sign and it's available for the gala. Loco roster notes it running also for half term week.
