What on earth have you done with that photo. it looks like a badly edited Tilt Shift edit...
Shot on a iPhone (or similar) with 'blur the background' turned on?

Sadly not as good a photographer as Gladiator and others with my Nokia phone.
I was trying to get both Maunsell carriages in shot. One was behind the moving 257 Squadron and therefore the background was blurred.
Now SR has 2 restored Maunsell carriages they will appear together with Flying Scotsman which is also the 1920/30s era.
Ideally they should be the darker olive green with yellow lining for the era, but at least they are now both operational.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, not quite correct to use the Royal Wessex term, in 1951 was used by new prototype Diesel locos and MK1 carriages (and not the 1930s era) to take people to the festival of Britain to help lift out of austerity (but the diesels took time to displace steam).

But hopefully the Flying Scotsman visit will raise some good funds for the Swanage Railway.

The Maunsell coaches are a credit to those who restored them, Now bring on the refurb teams for the MK 1s,
the M7 will look great with the maunsells and don’t we have A maunsell coach up for conversion for p/p ( or facsimile thereof )

But from the magazine p16 the next carriage to be restored (if enough funds are raised) is the Bulleid brake 4366 so a unique Bulleid 3 coach set can be formed and used. So the Maunsell Push Pull carriage will have to wait in the queue (but fortunately under cover off site).

Why would it be a unique Bulleid three coach set?

Well maybe they meant 'unique' in that not only would be 'prototypical' correct in being a BTK+CK+BTK but also the brakes are numbered in sequence as coaches in sets back in the day often were. They also have the same window design (all smaller ventilatiors) across the set.

Your good self's at the Bluebell currently only has one brake and your CK has the smaller ventilatiors on the windows differentiating from the others you have running. So it might been seen as not totally 'prototypical'.

The Mid hants railway's planned set is a close fit but it has a TO in the middle and the brakes are technically different designs.

The normal travelling public probably wouldn't notice I admit. It only be in the eyes of us carriage veg who be please to see it.

Having said that Tom you guys at the Bluebell do have two BRCW Bulleids brakes and the running CK is similar to the CKs used in the BRCW. So could be the basis for a fairly accurate Bulleid '3' set one day. Good counter point to the hoped for SECR 'trio-set'...

Visited yesterday with family & a friend

    A Significant Birthday

Domestic Facilities Management and friend laid out an afternoon tea on the 13.30 taking advantage of the hour layover while I went into Swanage followed by collecting tea from the buffet in the booking hall. The poor Commercial Manager wasnt having much fun with the coffee machine but I am sure its got him off purgatory, and he did take a lot of ribbing from a bystanding volunteer.

A good time was had by all, it seems that the Ticket Inspector had been asked if she wanted to stay at the station while someone else took her job so they could raid the leftovers!

Anyway' great trip, including us and the dining train passengers eyeing up what was on offer.

A nice touch was as we left a staff member saw and offered to take away our rubbish bag.

Middle son (14) wants it for next year!

    Thank you Swanage Railway

What a great picture - it just so happens that it is the same set that normally sits on my mantlepiece at home. Tom (@Jamessquared) does not seem to have noticed that there is clearly a pergoda cab at the other end of the set. Whatever, please don't suggest to him that the H gets restored to its push-pull incarnation as 31263:eek:. 30053 will fulfill that role nicely

    IMG_5417 (2) copy.jpg

I agree with @ady about the future possible Swanage Bulleid 3 set - it would be unique. Unlike GWR locos, Bulleid coaches do not all look the same. They tended to run in fixed formations with a brake at both ends - not really ideal for heritage railway use but a set with matching brakes and toplight windows would appeal to me even more than a latter day Maunsell push-pull set.

A sign of the times perhaps but FS tickets are £10 off for "limited offer" I notice on the website today.

Set was one of 20 formed to replace wooden bodied stock. Central Section Set 602 comprised BC 6681 and SO 1318, formed 11/59, withdrawn 12/63. I've a photo of it at Tun Wells West in 1962. Some of the 'central' sets found their way to Bournemouth after P-P ended on central territory. 602 was not among them.

So 6699 was not part of 602? But the photo shows how it could look like someday at Swanage.
According to SRStock there was a photo shoot of 6697 in the 70s, but not published online.
There is a photo of 6699 under sheeting 2006 at http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=531
    Sad that 6697 deteriated badly.

Had a look around their booking site. There's some very empty trains on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to Mike King's tome "An Illustrated History of Southern Pull-Push Stock" (OPC 2006) 6699 was paired with 1331 9/60 until 4/63 to form Central Divn Set 619. When the set was disbanded, BC6699 went to Hayling, with SO 1331 becoming 'loose stock'.

    Hope that's of use.

That's the coach that was in my Picture Puzzle post (#59032 if you want to check it out) a couple of days ago. It was part of the Tribometer test Train in 1977 when my picture was taken.

It is a super set. Great survivor and a real tribute to the C&W team.

Although none made into preservation (not for want of trying), I've always had a soft spot for the LSW Gate Stock. That was something out of the ordinary. So was the LSW P-P system .... just for all the wrong reasons!
